Mim Jensen Solidifies Her Status as a Powerful Force in Kiwi Music With Latest Single
Christchurch-based singer/songwriter Mim Jensen continues to move eyeballs towards her captivating music ledger, recently stapling a brutally honest alternative-indie single ‘Same Blood.’
Christchurch-based singer/songwriter Mim Jensen continues to move eyeballs towards her captivating music ledger, recently stapling a brutally honest alternative-indie single ‘Same Blood.’
With her debut six-track record ‘Emotional Affair‘ now behind her, Mim Jensen lights up the path to her upcoming second EP titled ‘Shadow of the Gift,’ with a song about harsh family bonds and situations spiraling out of order.
‘Same Blood’ sees Jensen at her most vulnerable and unrestrained, which consequently sets the foundation for a stellar indie composition that lingers way past your first listen. In addition to mapping sensations of loneliness and seclusion, lyrical wordplay around themes of “black sheep,” “thinking of running” and “a world built for the doom seekers” add layers of depth, dismay, anguish, and a seasoning of mystery to the music.
On social media, a candid Mim called ‘Same Blood’ “a very personal and vulnerable song,” proceeding on to explain, “I wrote this song last year when I was going through an incredibly lonely and hard point in my life. Writing the song happened very naturally and that was the only way I could really process what I was experiencing.”
Striking drum patterns and recurring edgy guitar chords kick off the song, with traces of synths, strummy strings, and wholesome electric guitar soon added to the fold. Mim delivers a sincere vocal performance that powerfully and melodically conveys each lyric.
Supporting Mim on this venture are musicians Liam Dodge, Will ‘Goodwill’ McGillivray, and Joshua Wright, along with Greg Obis and Ryan Fisherman. Also released is the music video for ‘Same Blood,’ directed by Soane Pamatangi and Adam Hogan and produced by LORE Films. This duo was responsible for the music video of Jensen’s ‘Pause Button‘ released in 2023.
A peek into the LORE films video library will unveil a recurring trope of balloons and lush green open spaces in their music videos, as witnessed in alternative-country singers Katie Thompson’s ‘I See You,’ also released earlier this year.
