Thaylo Talks the Art of Bridging Emotion and Energy in Melodic House

We sat down with the French melodic maestro to discuss his transcendent new EP on Nora En Pure’s Purified Records, the essence of his sonic identity, and where he plans to take his sound next.

Electronic music can sometimes oscillate not very kindly between fleeting trends and timeless depth, but when you see a producer tapping into something truly heartfelt, the emerging feeling is a rare kind of magic. A sonic space where melancholy and euphoria collide, and every note feels like a conversation with the soul.

All the emotions we’ve spoken about, French dance music virtuoso Thaylo exudes just that. Renowned for his sweeping piano-driven melodies, intricate rhythms, and emotional depth, he has carved a distinct niche in the electronic music landscape, catching the ears of tastemakers like Martin Garrix, Solomun, and Nora En Pure. With over four million streams and support from leading imprints such as Purified, Colorize, and Kontor, Thaylo’s name is swiftly becoming synonymous with emotional resonance on the dancefloor.

From commanding the decks at some of Europe’s most vibrant clubs to crafting tracks that pulse with atmospheric finesse, Thaylo brings both soul and sophistication to the melodic house craft. His latest offering, the ‘So Far To The End’ EP on Purified Records, is yet another testament to his ability to balance vulnerability with groove. The four-track journey dives deep into introspection while keeping the energy alive, whether it’s the cinematic swell of ‘Become Alive,’ the indie-tinged melancholy of the title track, or the hypnotic synergy of ‘Hold On Me’ with HGenius.

Now, as he unveils his most personal and resonant work yet on Purified Records, we sat down with Thaylo to dissect his creative wizardry, the inspiration behind his latest EP, his studio secrets, and how he turns raw emotion into spiritual dancefloor moments.

TFword: Your music is known for its emotional depth and piano-driven melodies. Can you walk us through the creative process behind the ‘So Far To The End’ EP? How do you translate emotions into sound?
THAYLO: So Far To The End is, to me, the perfect blend between organic and electronic elements. The piano definitely plays a central role in most of my productions, and that’s true for this EP as well — it’s often the emotional starting point for my music.

But this time, I also wanted to bring in a slightly more electronic edge than usual. It was about finding a balance — keeping that emotional depth while exploring a new, more textured sonic space.

I try to translate emotions in a very simple and honest way in my music. Sometimes, it’s just a subtle chord change or the way a bassline comes in — but most of the time, it really comes down to the core of the composition: the notes themselves. For me, melody is the most powerful tool to express what I feel, and I always let that lead the creative process.

TF: The EP has a rich blend of moods. Some tracks feel introspective, others euphoric. How do you balance these contrasting emotions while maintaining a cohesive sound?
THAYLO: I think maintaining a cohesive sound has become much easier for me over time, simply because I’ve spent so much time working on my music and really finding my own sound — my own sonic identity.

At this point, whatever genre or emotion I explore, I feel like my musical fingerprint naturally comes through without me even trying too hard. That’s what helps everything feel connected, even when the moods shift from introspective to euphoric.

TF: Were there any particular inspirations, musical or personal, that shaped the EP?
THAYLO: There were so many inspirations behind this EP — I really see it as a reflection of everything that has influenced me, whether from years ago or more recently.

More specifically, artists like RÜFÜS DU SOL and Monolink were definitely key influences in shaping the atmosphere and direction of this project. Their ability to blend emotional depth with electronic elements really resonated with me.

TF: Your connection with Purified Records is a significant milestone. What has it been like collaborating with the label on this EP?
THAYLO: Yes, working with Purified Records has definitely been a big milestone for my project. It’s actually a funny story — I initially sent them a track that I really loved, one where I was singing, and they connected with it. That kicked off a few months of back-and-forth collaboration as we developed it further.

From there, I shared a few more tracks that I felt could form a cohesive EP. We started with five tracks in total, but in the end, we decided to keep just four — and interestingly, we ended up leaving out the very first one that sparked the whole collaboration.

TF: Nora En Pure has been one of the biggest champions of your sound. What has your creative or professional exchange with her been like? Did she influence or provide feedback on this EP?
THAYLO: Absolutely! I worked closely with Nora En Pure and her team throughout the process — they were the ones giving me feedback on the tracks as the EP came together.

I really enjoy working with them because their feedback is always sharp, thoughtful, and genuinely helps push the music to the next level. I’ve been a fan of Nora En Pure’s music for a long time, so having the chance to collaborate with her, even indirectly, has truly been an honor.

TF: Purified has a very atmospheric, organic sonic aesthetic. How did you align your vision with that while still maintaining your unique voice on this release?
THAYLO: I think the main thing was staying true to my own universe. Luckily, my sound naturally aligned really well with Purified’s atmospheric and organic vibe.

Because of that, I didn’t feel the need to change my style — I was able to maintain my unique voice while fitting perfectly within their aesthetic.

TF: You’ve carved a distinctive identity rooted in melodic house, rich in emotional storytelling. What were some defining moments or influences in shaping this sound?
THAYLO: I’ve had quite a few defining moments along the way—and this is just the beginning. I believe every step plays a crucial role in establishing a project like this. The first label signings, initial radio appearances, debut live performances… all of these milestones have helped shape my sound. And then, sometimes, I listen to artists I admire and find myself thinking, ‘Wow, this is incredible.’ Certain tracks genuinely impress me, and that inspiration can bring a fresh perspective to my own music as I continue to grow.

Which artists or genres outside of house music have had an unexpected influence on your productions?

I’d instinctively say Ludovico Einaudi, Patrick Watson, and M83. Their music carries such depth and emotion, which resonates with me beyond genres. Whether it’s Einaudi’s delicate piano compositions, Watson’s cinematic approach to songwriting, or M83’s expansive, nostalgic soundscapes, each of them has, in different ways, influenced the way I shape atmosphere and storytelling in my own productions.

TF: How do you balance musicality and dancefloor functionality when composing your tracks?
THAYLO: I always start with the core elements that define my music—organic sounds and the emotion I want to convey. From there, I shape it into an electronic track, incorporating synthesizers and danceable drum patterns. I try to find a rhythm that serves the music, and in turn, let the music dictate the movement. It’s all about striking that balance between emotion and energy, ensuring that the track resonates both sonically and physically.

TF: Your sound has resonated globally, garnering support from names like Martin Garrix and Solomun. How do you plan to evolve it going forward?
THAYLO: I think what drew artists like Martin Garrix and Solomun to my sound is my commitment to staying as authentic as possible while bringing my own touch. My plan is to continue on this path—remaining true to my identity while constantly evolving both my music and my artistic universe. Growth is key, and I want to keep pushing my sound forward in fresh and unexpected ways.

TF: Are there new sonic territories or collaborations you’re eager to explore next?
THAYLO: Absolutely—there are many! I’ve been working on some major collaborations for a while now, and I can’t wait to share them. Blending the worlds of artists I admire with my own is something I truly love; it’s an inspiring experience that pushes my creative boundaries and opens up exciting new sonic possibilities.

TF: With live performance becoming such an integral part of your journey, how do you envision your DJ sets evolving alongside your production work?
THAYLO: I see it as a constant evolution. I’d love to play more and more, refining my sets to create immersive experiences that truly reflect who I am. While I enjoy playing tracks from other artists, what I love most is performing my own music—it’s a unique feeling to see people connect with something I’ve created. So, naturally, the next step is to shape my sets around that, making my own productions the centerpiece of the journey.

TF: Beyond music, do you have any visual or multimedia projects in the works to enhance your artistic expression?
THAYLO: Yes, there are! The first project revolves around live performance—we’re working on visuals for my DJ sets that will immerse people even deeper into my world. I’m also developing a broader visual universe for shows that might be a bit more personal. There’s definitely more to come, so stay tuned!

TF: Do you see yourself experimenting with a full-length album or even more conceptual storytelling projects in the near future?
THAYLO: It’s definitely something that crosses my mind, and I have plenty of ideas for it. But I want to wait for the right moment—I feel like it’s a bit too soon for now. I’d rather let the project evolve and mature in the back of my mind, so that when the time comes, I can bring it to life in the best possible way.
