Fresh off their previous outing, ‘Solace,’ mainstays of the Indian electronic circuit Nikhil Chinapa and Browncoat slap on yet another collaborative project titled ‘1947.’

Released via Chinapa’s Submerge Music label, the duo put together strokes of the sarangi and sifted layers of progressive house and melodic techno, all smelted with a sample of a historic freedom speech.

‘1947’ from DJ/producer Nawed Khan, best known as Browncoat, and DJ/festival curator Nikhil Chinapa, was released on India’s 79th Independence Day. The track was inspired by their shared admiration for the Tryst with Destiny speech, delivered by the first prime minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, to the Indian Constituent Assembly on the night of August 14, 1947.

The hair-raising tune track opens with ambient textures crossed with pulsing basslines and crisp percussion. It gradually builds with rich synth marks and melodic touches that usher in words from Jawaharlal Nehru’s famous speech.

Like a whisper in the wind, acclaimed sarangi player Sandeep Mishra steps in, breathing new life into the piece. Coming in right after the oration, the draws of the bow on the sarangi add a powerful and evocative intensity that connects deeply and prompts a wide range of emotions.

“‘1947’ was born from a shared connection to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s Tryst with Destiny speech, whose words have always stayed with me as a reminder of resilience and hope,” Nikhil Chinapa shared in a press statement about the inspiration behind the new track.

“We built the track around the speech and the sarangi, performed beautifully by Sandeep Mishraji, to blend India’s cultural heritage with modern electronic production,” conveyed Browncoat.

He added, “The sarangi’s soulful tones evoke both nostalgia and hope, while the music speaks to today’s listeners. ‘1947’ is not just a tribute to independence, but a reflection on how its ideals of unity and progress continue to inspire.”

‘1947’ by Browncoat and Nikhil Chinapa is now available across all streaming platforms.
