Producing an album for yourself can be an emotionally exhausting and creatively demanding process, but producing for others, especially global superstars like Kylie Minogue, Doja Cat, Will.i.am, and Sigala, takes it to an entirely different level. Fortunately, Sky Adams knows this world better than most.
The multi-talented songwriter, composer, and producer has carved a distinct space for himself as one of the most innovative and versatile names in contemporary music. Currently based between London and Miami, Adams has accumulated over four billion global streams, celebrated for his genre-fluid style and unerring instinct for reinvention that effortlessly bridges pop, dance, electronic, and R&B.
Sky’s rise to international acclaim began with Kylie Minogue’s chart-topping album ‘Golden’ (2018), a record that introduced daring country-pop elements and sold over 100,000 copies in the UK alone. His global reach soared further when Doja Cat’s ‘Boss Bitch’ (2020) garnered multi-platinum status in the U.S. and racked up more than 1.8 billion streams, earning acclaim as one of Spotify’s all-time top tracks and adding platinum and gold awards around the world.
Adding another milestone to his career, Adams now steps into the spotlight once again as the producer of Olly Murs’ highly anticipated eighth studio album, ‘Knees Up,’ slated for release on November 21, 2025. The album features twelve tracks on its standard edition, with live versions accompanying the deluxe release. The first taste of the project came earlier this year with ‘Save Me,’ a ska-infused, brass-heavy anthem co-written by Sky, which climbed to #6 on the UK Airplay charts. Playful, catchy, and brimming with personality, the track nods to the charm of Murs’ early hits while adding a fresh, modern punch.
With the album release date drawing near, it’s the perfect moment to sit down with Sky Adams and discuss his approach to working with global icons, his experience producing for Olly Murs, and how he adapts his distinctive style to cater to a broad spectrum of musical influences in high-pressure production settings.
TFword: How did this collaboration with Olly Murs come about, and what drew you to work on his album?
SKY ADAMS: The same A&R I’d worked with on Kylie’s albums connected us, and there was an instant spark.
TF: ‘Save Me’ has such a vibrant, ska-infused energy and feels like a throwback to Olly’s earlier work while still sounding fresh. What was the creative spark behind this track?
SKY ADAMS: I’ve always felt his voice sits naturally on that reggae-inspired sound. We experimented with a few ideas until we landed on something that felt like gold.
TF: You co-wrote the track with Edward Drewett and James New. What was that writing room dynamic like, and how did each of you bring your strengths to the table?
SKY ADAMS: With multiple writers, it can take a moment to find your rhythm, but after the first song clicked, the vibe was effortless and really fun.
TF: You’ve worked with major artists like Kylie Minogue and Doja Cat, but how was crafting an album specifically for Olly Murs different from your previous projects?
SKY ADAMS: Every artist is a new challenge, and the goal is always to reinvent the sound in a way that feels true to them. With Olly, the most important part was not overthinking it — just having fun in the moment.
TF:When you were crafting this album with Olly, what was the overarching vision or mood you wanted to capture across the songs?
SKY ADAMS: We wanted something people could relate to, dance to, and that captured a bit of British spirit.
TF: Olly is known for his storytelling in pop music. How did you balance his signature lyrical style with your own production identity?
SKY ADAMS: I love storytelling too, which made it a perfect match. Our styles complemented each other naturally.
TF: Did this album push you to explore any new techniques, sounds, or workflows you hadn’t experimented with before?
SKY ADAMS: Definitely. My taste is broad, and this was the kind of project I’d always wanted to dive into more fully.
TF: Is there a particular track from the album that you feel best represents your collaborative chemistry with Olly?
SKY ADAMS: “Knees Up” really captures that chemistry between us.
TF: What has been the most rewarding moment in your music journey so far?
SKY ADAMS: Seeing people all over the world dance or perform to songs I’ve written — especially on platforms like TikTok — is always incredibly rewarding.
TF: Who are some artists or collaborators who have played a key role in your growth?
SKY ADAMS: Because I work across so many genres, it’s hard to pinpoint just a few. Honestly, everyone I’ve met along the way has added something valuable to my growth.
TF: What new directions or sounds are you currently exploring?
SKY ADAMS: New plug-ins and sounds are constantly being released, so I’m always experimenting, blending ideas, and finding ways to keep things fresh and exciting.
TF: What role does experimentation play in your process, and how do you strike that balance between commercial success and staying artistically bold?
SKY ADAMS: Experimentation is essential — it’s how you discover new ways to express yourself. You have to stay aware of what’s happening commercially, but always add your own twist.
TF: Beyond Olly’s project, what other collaborations or personal projects are you excited about that you can share with us?
SKY ADAMS: I’ve been working on a few personal projects: Kid Kyote, my EDM alter ego with some exciting collaborations coming, and Ghosts on a Beach, a virtual band I’ve been building over the last three years that’s finally ready to start releasing music.
TF: As you look to the future, where do you see your sound heading next? Any genres or styles you’re eager to explore?
SKY ADAMS: It’s hard to predict because everything’s blending together now. I just go with the flow and see where the music takes me.
TF: What do you want people to take away from this phase of your career, especially with the work you’ve done on this album?
SKY ADAMS: Don’t be afraid to try new things — and above all, make sure you’re enjoying the process. That’s what really matters.
