Music producer and visual artist Dolorblind has released ‘NRG,’ signaling the arrival of his new EP.
Delhi- and Bengaluru-based Rohan Sinha, aka Dolorblind, has a growing reputation for carving unorthodox compositions and eccentric sounds. For his productions, he draws inspiration from a time when digital sounds were everywhere, from movies, railway announcements, TV commercials, etc.
His upcoming ‘No Signal‘ EP nicks its title from the blue screen that appears on old box televisions when the signal or connection is lost and reflects the frustrations experienced while waiting for a response.
Sealed into the upcoming record are works of pop, hip-hop, IDM, and ambient music, and it is characterized by its “anthemic electronic motifs and percussive samples,” according to a press release.
The newest single out from the EP is ‘NRG,’ which is described by Dolorblind as “the most melodic track on the EP.” It delves into themes of withdrawal and self-reflection done the Dolorblind way. In the artist’s words, “The sound draws from my interest in how technology gains emotional value as it ages.”
Clocking in at nearly four minutes, the single is stitched together with jarring bass jerks, sturdy drum movements, and wavy synth patches to concoct a gloomy, slow-burning electronica feel.
On this outing, Dolorblind plugs in regular collaborator and one-third of EXCISE DEPT, singer-producer Rounak Maiti, whose mellow voice shrouds the tune, adding warmth, depth and a dreamy edge. “He made ‘NRG’ feel anthemic and translated the emotions really well,” stated Dolorblind. “We’re regular collaborators because we understand each other sonically.”
Up next for Dolorblind is a five-city tour to promote the impending EP, which releases on March 6, with shows scheduled for Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Goa, and Bengaluru thus far.
