Phosphenes – ‘Supercomputer Space’

Kathmandu’s alternative rock and dream pop band, Phosphenes, presents its newest single, ‘Supercomputer Space,’ the lead single from their forthcoming album ‘Sleep on the grass.’ This song was inspired by a string of sci-fi troupes and was conceived during the lockdown by founding members Abhi Pokhrel and Prajwal Aryal.

Opening with a cosmic travel-like echo, sturdy drum arrangements and guitar flicks ensue, shaping an experimental/alternate melody swirled in the band’s signature atmospheric sound with vivid storytelling. Centered around a futuristic battle for survival within the cosmos, the tune is enriched with lush synth movement, ambient electronic textures, and wavy electric guitar sections.

“This song takes us into uncharted sonic territory. We wanted to create a track that not only immerses listeners in a sci-fi narrative but also experiments with space rock textures that feel otherworldly,” stated Prajwal Aryal via a press note. Abhishekh Pokhrel added, “Hearing the raw demo for the first time, I was instantly transported to another universe. The track has an identity of its own, reminiscent of David Bowie’s Space Oddity but with a modern, experimental edge.”

Archit Daniel – ‘Bebasi’

Songwriter-composer Archit Daniel brings forward ‘Bebasi,’ a poignant singer-songwriter piece worded during his school days. At its core, the song speaks of heartbreak, yearning, and vulnerability tied together with poignant lyrics and Archit’s temperate vocals.

Introduced with gloomy key arrangments and ominous vocal harmonies, this production shapes up a bleak soundscape, soaking listeners into the account of somebody heartbroken. Post a grim guitar solo, the music pivots to a bulkier rock-esque ballad.

“The song captures the raw essence of feeling lost and powerless in love,” remarked Archit Daniel.

Kim The Beloved x Reble – ‘Set It Off’

Supercharging the Indian rap scene with viscous flows and straightforward lyrics is Shillong/Aizawl-based breakdancer turned musician Kim The Beloved. In his most recent project, ‘Set It Off,’ the artist collaborates with Meghalayan rapper Daiaphi Lamare, best known as Reble, and waves the banner of rap music from the northeast of India sky high.

On this track, Kim The Beloved fires out fierce verses over an ominous hip-hop beat, while Reble’s presence cranks up the tempo, spitting lyrics with velocity, furthering her claim as a dominant force in the rap game.

No Neighbours Around – ‘Story Of’

Bengaluru’s alternative rock outfit No Neighbours Around is back with their fourth music release, ‘Story Of.’ With this release, the three-piece outfit continues to diversify their profile, shuffling from the pop-rock sonics of ‘In the Night’ to the raw and gritty rock number heard on ‘Back to You.’

‘Story Of’ punches a more soft rock sound in the beginning, noted by breezy acoustic guitar strokes and raspy vocals, gradually leading to a more hard-rock/alternative piece sealed with a searing electric guitar riff. “The song captures the essence that no matter who you are, you are the hero in your life,” shared guitarist Vignesh Siva via email. Drummer Vikas Gotla elaborated, “This song is emotional and powerful—one that I hope will have us perceived as more than just another loud rock band.”

Biancca – ‘Khuli Kitaab’

Mumbai-based singer-songwriter and performer Biancca casts out her latest single, ‘Khuli Kitaab,’ a ditty about unspoken love and concealed emotions. The music picks up with strummy guitars and Biancca’s expressive vocals, building up to a sombre rock score with steady drum shifts, flowing guitar riffs, and soothing string sections courtesy of Saurav S Chandran.

As per the press note, “‘Khuli Kitaab’ tells the story of someone too afraid to confess their feelings, instead leaving subtle hints, hoping to be understood.”
