Vici is not just a prodigious producer who caught the drum & bass bug at the age of 9, he’s a dancefloor dynamo, a master of rhythm who thrives in the high-energy realms of the genre while never losing sight of its core pulse. His sound is explosive and precise, built for the club yet layered with the kind of technical finesse that commands respect from purists and party-starters alike.
For nearly a decade, Vici has crafted a diverse catalog, releasing on heavyweight labels like Blackout Music, Neksus Sound, Sinful Maze, In The Lab Recordings, Hyperactivity Music, Kosen Production, and Impact Music, among others. This journey through different imprints highlights his versatility—an artist who can adapt to shifting styles without sacrificing his signature edge. Whether it’s tech-driven rollers, snarling jump-up, or experimental grooves, Vici’s consistency and craftsmanship have made him a standout name in the scene.
Now, that evolution has reached a new peak with his debut studio album, ‘Flashover,’ a bold statement that encapsulates everything that makes the French virtuoso one of drum & bass’ most thrilling talents. Packed with pace, power, and rhythmic ingenuity, the project is a celebration of his journey so far and a glimpse into his future. Landing on Annix’s revered Neksus Sound imprint, the album strikes a perfect balance between straight-ahead dancefloor destruction and inventive sound design, proving that Vici can deliver adrenaline and artistry in equal measure.
Following the release, we sat down with Vici to dig deeper into the making of ‘Flashover.’ How did he approach the balance between solo productions and collaborations? What defined the album’s sonic identity? And what were the most rewarding—or challenging—moments in its creation? Here’s what he had to say…
TFword: Congratulations on the release of ‘Flashover!’ Now that the album is out in the world, how are you feeling about the response and the journey it represents?
VICI: Thank you very much! Well, it’s quite a special feeling. Working for so long on the same project, day and night, trying to build something that fully represents me, through its story, its artistic direction, and finally delivering it to the entire world, is a blend of several feelings: joy, relief, and even fear. Regarding the response, I couldn’t be more grateful; the feedback has been so positive, from the audience, my peers, and people I am fans of and respect greatly, who have filled me with praise for this album. Thank you all.
TF: You’ve built an incredible back-catalogue over the years. How did that legacy influence the creation of ‘Flashover,’ and how does it feel to add this album to your body of work?
VICI: This album is the culmination of several years of work on my sound signature, the direction I wanted to take, with a blend of jump up and neurofunk. From “Glow VIP,” “Revenge,” to the most important, “Bullshark,” Flashover is the fruit of all this work, the final stone in this edifice. Now, looking to the future, it’s up to me to continue sculpting this sound and pushing it further.
TF: What was the turning point that made you decide it was time to create an album, and how long did the process take from conception to completion?
VICI: The turning point that made me decide it was time to create an album was approaching my 10 years in the scene. So in 2022, I had this idea that kept looping in my mind. In 2023, I started gathering a lot of tracks I was working on and began trying to give coherence to what would be my first album. By early 2024, I messaged Annix to ask him to call me. We spoke on the phone, and I expressed my desire to release my first album with Neksus (I had already released a single, and my remix of “Kicks” by Annix was coming out the following month). A few weeks later, I sent him a V1 of the album, and the following year transformed this album idea into what it is today. So to answer the question about the time from conception to completion, I’d say more than 2 years!
TF: The album spans a wide range of drum & bass styles, offering something for every listener. What was your creative vision or approach when blending these different sounds into one cohesive project?
VICI: Well, I have always loved all the sub-genres of Drum & Bass. Whether in production or DJ sets, covering the entire spectrum is very important to me. I’ve already released EPs that are 100% Liquid, 100% Deep, 100% Neuro… But that also made me scatter and spend less time shaping my own sound. Flashover is also the legacy of all the sub-genres I have produced, but adapted with my own sound and vision, which is a long journey for an artist…
TF: The album strikes a great balance between solo tracks and collaborations. What was it like working with such a diverse group of artists, and how did these collaborations shape the overall sound of Flashover?
VICI: Thank you very much! Working with these artists has been a real pleasure. Firstly, because each of them is one of my friends… To start with, Miss Understood, my best friend for a very long time, and also my stage MC. The question of her being part of this project was never in doubt; we worked on several tracks together and decided to keep “Glitch” and “Flashover.” She also features on “Shut It Down” and “Welcome To Your Life,” but in a more subtle way! She also came up with the album name “Flashover,” which influenced how the story of this album was to end. A huge thank you to her for always being there!
Speaker Louis, whom I’ve known for many years and is an excellent producer focused on Jungle, with whom I had already collaborated. I thought it would be amazing to have a track that blends our two worlds in the album. Eluun, with whom I share a lot of similarities in what we love in Drum & Bass, it was clear that we had to make a track together for this project. [BORDERS], whom I met more recently but working with him is really interesting; he brings a musical side that I felt was missing during the creation of this album, and we are very proud of the result of our track. And finally, Madrush MC, I’ve always dreamed of having an English MC on my album, and Madrush truly did an amazing job on “Unreality.”
TF: How was your experience working with Neksus Sound on this project? Did their approach or ethos influence the direction of the album in any way?
VICI: The experience with Neksus went extremely well. With Clara (my manager, who has the project ?nk?be), they granted us all the possible freedom, whether in artistic direction, communication planning, etc. A huge thank you to them for the trust they placed in this project and for making everything possible for it to come to life!
TF: The short film accompanying ‘Flashover’ adds a cinematic layer to the album’s themes. What inspired you to merge visuals with your music, and how do you think this enhances the listener’s connection to the album?
VICI: As my album was approaching the end of the creative process, my manager Clara shared the idea of this short film with me. Telling a story through music is great, but being able to visualize it is even better… So, she called upon William Scotto, an extremely talented videographer, who created both the short film and the album cover. Given the quality of his footage, Clara then decided that we should use many parts of the short film for our album’s communication. She has been invaluable in navigating this journey, whether in artistic direction, communication, managing all the issues that can arise when preparing an album, and especially in supporting me personally to keep pushing through. A big thank you to her!
TF: …and how do you feel this elevates the listener’s experience?
VICI: Well, in 2025, music alone is not enough anymore. In the age of social media, it is essential to offer something additional to the listeners. That’s why, for a project like this, placing so much emphasis on the visuals allows us to provide a beautiful experience for people, enhancing the music with striking imagery!
TF: What do you hope listeners take away from ‘Flashover,’ both musically and emotionally, after experiencing the album and its accompanying visuals?
VICI: First and foremost, I hope listeners enjoyed the album and the short film. What I would like them to take away is that this album represents a multitude of challenges I have faced in my life and how I tried to visualize my journey through them. I hope to convey a small message of hope: if you find yourself in a tough situation, don’t stay alone, and I wish you the very best <3
TF: Now that the album is out, do you have any plans to bring ‘Flashover’ to life in a live setting, perhaps with the visuals integrated into a performance?
VICI: Of course! For the album release party, the visuals were primarily clips from the short film, along with other elements in the same artistic direction. I truly hope to continue offering this format alongside Miss Understood!
TF: Looking back at the journey of creating ‘Flashover,’ what was the most rewarding part of the process, and what did you learn about yourself as an artist?
VICI: The most rewarding part of the process is when you ask for initial feedback from your circle—friends, fellow artists—and they are all very happy with the result. When you spend so much time on a project, those first impressions are extremely crucial… What I have learned about myself as an artist is that patience is the key to everything. You should never rush things, and it’s especially important to be willing to question yourself.
TF: How is the rest of 2025 looking for Vici?
VICI: In 2025, Vici has many dates lined up with Miss Understood, notably at Boomtown (the dream date, let’s not kid ourselves), as well as several tracks coming out on Blackout, some remixes, and of course, more exciting things to come. Thank you all for the support you’ve given me for so long!
