Chalfest, England
Sprouting from France Lynch Pleasure Ground in Stroud, England, is Chalfest, a 7,500-capacity community-driven multi-day festival run entirely by devoted volunteers. Held annually since 2017, it encompasses a weekend of events, multi-genre live music performances, and displays of the arts, all framed to foster a sense of oneness.
“Not only is there something for everyone, but we all get to learn from others around us,” the festival’s planning committee asserts online. Tagged as a “party on a hill,” this family-friendly festival, where children under the age of 11 are ticked for free, features three music stages and a bevvy of skill-building workshops engineered for people of all ages, and also follows a sustainable model of ‘Leave No Trace.’
The recent 2025 edition stacked up an outstanding line-up featuring over forty artists, including main stage headliners Kula Shaker, Judge Jules, Fisherman’s Friends, Toby Lee, Dick and Dom, The Amy Winehouse Experience and more. Chalfest also won the publicly nominated and contested Cotswold Award for the best music festival in the Cotswolds in 2024.

Blå Sol Festival, Denmark
New to the festival circuit is Blå Sol (Blue Sun) Festival, held in the city of Randers, Denmark. It started as a community project back in April 2024. Every aspect of this festival is choreographed by local volunteers who understand the very heartbeat of the city and its residents. As a non-profit organization, Blå Sol’s objectives are to create, organize, and carry out an annual music festival, engage in other cultural events and activities, and support non-profit or charitable endeavors, such as those relating to culture, amateur sports, and children and youth.
Blå Sol’s debut edition hoisted three stages, Vidunderblå, Dragonen, and Byfesten (Wonderblue, Dragon and City Festival Stage), lit up primarily by all Danes – festival architect Christian Degn aka DJ Degnamite, car-music fame Hedegaard, rapper Lamin, pop-act Mumle, singer-songwriter Dopha, electronic rock band Carpark North, and eurodance outfit Diskofil, to name a few.
Also held in Denmark is the Roskilde Festival, one of the largest music weeklong festivals in Europe, held not-for-profit since 1972 and boasting crowds of up to 130,000 participants.

Earth Beat Festival, New Zealand
Lauded as “a family camping wonderland accessible to all generations,” New Zealand’s 5-day Earth Beat Festival emanates from Atiu Creek Regional Park, Tapora. According to their website, ticket sales, on-site eateries and cafes, and merchandising are used to fund the Earth Beat Festival, which is completely independent and devoid of corporate sponsorship. The local population and the land are the beneficiaries of the festival’s proceeds.
The festival’s funds are used to support creative projects and concepts, as well as musicians, artists, infrastructure, facilitators, and the local community. Additionally, its Leave No Trace policy, in particular, takes things a step further by providing only compost bins around the festival site instead of rubbish bins.
Performers at the 2025 edition in March included Empress Naima, Mia Kober, Logan Baker, Kukan Dub Lagan, Deep Fried Dub, Bwoy De Bhajan, and Paige Julia.

Draaimolen Festival, Netherlands
The independent Dutch group Draaimolen, which channels a connection between electronic music, art, and nature, fronts the Draaimolen Festival. Holy Pink, a free outdoor celebration of Tilburg Pride; Draaimolen Island, a more intimate event that fuses electronic and acoustic music with art and nature; and the two-day Draaimolen Festival are among its three endeavors.
Draaimolen Festival resides on the boundary of a forest area in Tilburg and radiates with waves of techno, house, and electronica. With six stages, the promoters present both up-and-coming and well-established performers. You will not encounter banners of sponsors or brand logos at this festival site, which is an intriguing way to exemplify their independence.
The upcoming two-day festival on September 5 and 6, 2025, boasts a long line-up that consists of eighty-one acts, with appearances from “The First Lady of Drum and Bass” DJ Storm, the alchemist of soul Mike Servito, Timedance label head Batu, and OKO DJ.

M3F Festival, USA
Residing in Phoenix, Arizona, is M3F Fest – a veteran figure in this space, thriving for almost two decades and giving 100% of proceeds directly to charity. M3F, formerly McDowell Mountain Music Festival, was established to give back, drenched in a love of music, the arts, and community. It began with an easy concept: one stage, two thousand fans, and rows of lawn chairs.
They have greeted over 25,000 guests since their founding and have donated USD 600,000 to the arts, community, environment, and education. Accompanied by an adult, children under 12 are also welcome for free. Community, culture, and charity are the three pillars of M3F.
In a promotional video on their YouTube channel, founder John Largay declares, “There is no overhead to M3F, every dollar that we raise goes directly to the charities we invest in.” The most recent festival took place in March 2025 and assembled alice.km, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Frost Children, and more onstage.
