January’s batch of new music releases drifts from folklore-fueled post-metal and protest-ready rock to hazy dream-pop reflections with Assamese crew BIMURTA, indie rockers The Lightyears Explode, and plenty more in the fold!
Papori Harsh Project – ‘Bhairavi’
Hot on the heels of the folk metal scorcher ‘Challa,’ Bengaluru-based fusion Papori Harsh Project and frequent collaborator, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Vishal J Singh resurface with ‘Bhairavi.’ Adding in the prowess of guitarist-producer Bhargav Sharma, aka Toxic Teddy, this new undertaking taps into primal feminine ferocity.
It honors the goddess within every woman, confronting societal systems, inherited trauma, and chaos within, while steering despair into a source of power. Classical vocal bellows intertwine with heavy progressive metal motifs on this offering, as Papori Harsh’s Thumri vocal style ignites the music, crammed with sinister synths, boisterous guitars, and a booming classical-meets-folk-metal pulse.
According to the artist, ‘Bhairavi’ serves as “a sonic ritual of rage, resilience, healing and self-salvation, where tradition collides with distortion and vulnerability becomes divine strength.”

Noel Emmanuel – ‘rewind to that day’
Singer-songwriter Noel Emmanuel lifted the lid off his forthcoming EP to unveil his debut single, ‘Rewind to That Day.’ Written four years ago, the song serves as a heartfelt ode to treasured memories with someone special, and according to Noel, it “explores the feeling of wanting to go back in time and relive the moments you once shared with a person who meant everything.”
Co-produced alongside Vineet Braganza, Noel leans into an emotionally driven soft rock ballad, pairing breezy guitar strums with deep, expressive vocals. Pop-tinged coatings lace through the arrangement alongside evocative lyrics and a subtle heartbeat, likely Noel’s own, which helps underscore how personal the single is for him. “My hope is that listeners who are going through something similar can find comfort and recognition in it,” the artist added.
As an opening number, ‘rewind to that day’ makes an immediate impression owing to its vulnerable story arc. If this is the sound Noel is setting in January 2026, what comes next from him is well worth the wait.

BIMURTA – ‘All skies lead to the sun’ (EP)
Post-metal anchors with a new bold twist as rich atmosphere layers collide with the ruthless energy of Assam/Bengaluru-based crew BIMURTA. Their five-track debut EP, ‘All skies lead to the sun,’ ushers in a “cinemetal” soundscape and blends Assamese folklore with classical instruments, blistering guitars, and thunderous drums.
‘Baba Hargila,’ which imagines the Greater Adjutant Stork as a soothsayer or seer, opens strong, stacking feisty, melodic flute lines and intricate tabla rhythms over roaring guitars, intense kick drums, and dynamic vocal passages. Next, the five-minute meditative piece, ‘The Immortal‘ pairs rustic acoustic guitar and harmonious singing with an eerie, almost menacing tune that gradually drifts into heavier prog metal territory.
A spoken-word composition, ‘said/unsaid,’ sets the stage for the ensuing shoegaze/blackgaze-inspired single, ‘Rodalisnan.’ It is bound together with guttural vocals, a flute sequence carrying a soothing, almost haunting tone, lush strings, and rapid percussion hits. Reflecting on the cut, the group conveyed, “We wrote this song because we don’t want to bind this band to only be a vehicle for typical ‘metal’ type emotions like anger and rage, but also love, despair, and softness.”
Concluding the EP is ‘Pale Blue Drought,’ its longest track, shaped by the flow and presence of the River Brahmaputra. Classical flavors melt into post-metal surges on this outing, capturing a narrator telling the river to “ignore the way we have defiled the land and to keep flowing, this world and humanity are no longer of their concern.”
BIMURTA consists of indie musicians Abhinob Saikia, Saptarshi Das, and Roktim Bhattacharjya, thriving in a self-contained universe where the formless one, Bimurta, resides. The group looks to further expand this music project into a larger narrative through literary works, visual arts, poetry, and recurring characters, and we couldn’t be more excited.

AYSH – ‘JHOOTHI’
Bengaluru-based self-proclaimed “hustle-teller” and force behind Hindi-worded R&B and pop vibes AYSH cast out ‘JHOOTHI,’ the lead single from his debut album. Staying true to his greased R&B vocal style, the producer-singer leads listeners through a slick, easygoing desi-pop beat crafted with retro synths and a hypnotic bounce.
‘JHOOTHI’ places among seven previously released singles, including ‘Tera Chera,’ ‘GUNAAH‘ and ‘Meri Kahani,’ and according to the songwriter, touches on “the absurdity of getting ghosted” while also highlighting “the specific frustration of fake promises.”

Perception Delta – ‘Show Me the Reality’
Bouncing off their debut single ‘Haunt You‘ from June 2025, Chennai-based alternative/progressive rock four-piece Perception Delta return with a follow-up effort, titled ‘Show Me the Reality.’ Bleak, brooding bass tugs and snappy drum smacks shape an unsettling dark undertone, stirring in a restless intensity that slowly creeps into the mix.
Antara Arvind’s passionate, emotionally charged voice sits confidently over hard-rock grit and grungy textures, which is further jacked up as Nirav Adrian shreds ferocious guitar riffs, and soaring progressive rock hues take flight. As per the group, it dives into “the angst and tension that accompanies a breakdown of mutual understanding and trust.”

The Lightyears Explode – ‘Space Invaders’
Mumbai-based rock scene pillars The Lightyears Explode continue to periodically emit hooky pop-rock/alternative rock melodies, steadily adding a fresh coat to India’s budding rock circuit. ‘Space Invaders,’ the latest entry, arrives supercharged with growling bass guitars, jangly guitar riffs, and crisp drumming, and pulls inspiration from a real venue-sabotaging incident in their home city.
Twisted around Saurabh Roy’s earnest crooning of the catchy lyric, “Everybody knows, where the money flows,” is a spirited rallying cry, calling out the power structures that choose oppression over service while choking creative avenues and freedom of expression.
Clocking in just shy of four minutes, the single carries words fitting of the times and closes with an ominous, blaring siren pressed against rousing, battle-like drum patterns. The Lightyears Explode communicated via press note, “‘Space Invaders’ takes aim at the long-standing antagonistic relationship between oppressive governments and spaces where art is expressed freely.”
“The track captures the urgency of defending creative spaces against intimidation, censorship, and control,” added the rock rebels.

Siddarth Nayanar – ‘When I’m With You’
Guitarist-producer Siddarth Nayanar’s new song, ‘When I’m With You,’ pulls listeners into a creamy dream-pop jaunt, sculpted by mellow electric guitar shifts, smooth bass licks, and mood-lifting ambient textures. As the arrangement glides forward, sonics pivot neatly toward the closing stretch, cruising into an upbeat bop with a shimmering guitar solo and playful synths.
Across the single, Siddarth paints out his inspiration, describing “the feeling of being with the right person,” while reflecting on “how time never goes slow” in that moment. He informed us, “I love music and how songs have made me feel things for real, like a groove or a melody that’s beautifully crafted.”
“If there’s anything I want listeners to feel from the song, it’s just the different places it will take them sonically, and as for the words, it’s a simple but real feeling that I believe everybody has either been there or feels it now,” Siddarth added.
