Los Angeles-based hybrid DJ, drummer, and vocalist NEON PONY added another chapter to her Beats in Hidden Retreats series with a second installment radiating from Alaska.
Multi-faceted electronic artist Neon Pony, known for her eclectic mix of live drumming, vocals, and electronic music, has uploaded her second Beats In Hidden Retreats session, called “Into the Wild,” to her YouTube channel. For this venture, her custom-built drum kit, equipped with flashing lights, was stationed on a waterfront, snow-clad spot in the Alaskan wilderness.
Spanning nearly an hour, Neon Pony puts on a stellar hybrid set, threaded with multiple percussion instruments, vocalizations and energetic servings of Afro house, melodic house, and progressive house throughout. The video presentation cuts between shots of the whole setup and sweeping views of the frosty landscape.
The “icing” on the performance arrives with views of the aurora borealis or northern lights, providing a celestial backdrop to the entire spectacle. On social media, Neon Pony called it “the hardest thing I’ve ever done to date” and revealed it was a true test of endurance and grit.
The artist wrote, “I took my decks, drums, percussion, vocals, and full live set deep into the Alaskan wilderness. 17°F. Unexpected snow. Ice under my feet. A leotard bodysuit. No gloves. Battling freezing temperatures, equipment failures, numb fingers, and the raw force of nature trying to shut it all down, this became pure endurance. Standing on black ice, fighting just to keep the set alive.”
“As a lifelong musician, this series is where everything I love has come together. DJing, drumming, percussion, songwriting, vocals, and live performance pushed me to the absolute edge. After the battle of Fiji for Episode 1, I didn’t think anything could top it… But Alaska proved me wrong in the most rewarding way,” she went on to explain.
Neon Pony’s first Beats in Hidden Retreats session was held back in 2024 and stemmed from the floating getaway Cloud 9, a two-level club surrounded by turquoise waters in Fiji.
Beats In Hidden Retreats Episode 2: Alaska is available for viewing now and has racked up over 250K views at the time of writing, with tons of praise in the comments section.
