Four years after unleashing their debut five-track EP ‘Skyless‘ and unwrapping a Christmas Day present with ‘Untether‘ (also in 2020), Within Ceres – fired up by guitarist-songwriter Odin De Sa – have the cloche yanked apart from within courtesy of their rattling new metal ballad ‘Bloodlust.’
Their newest outing bleeds with eerie and fast-paced audio shards before barraging in a wave of thunderous drums, gritty bass tugs, and rabid electronic guitar. Vocals on the single consist mostly of deep growls peppered with bulky textures. Pedaling between the floor-stomping heavy metal action is a brief melodic score, a sliver of tranquility amidst a tempest that jolts back to a heavy, hard-hitting soundscape.
The band describes their concept for ‘Bloodlust’ as “a gripping tale of a soldier scarred by the ravages of war within Ceres.” Returning home and struggling to adjust to this peaceful environment, the soldier’s previous battle experiences latch onto her, leading to a spree of violence. Captured and facing the gallows, her last words echo a grim prophecy: “I am not the first, nor the last. There will be many.
“Making this comeback is exciting,” says guitarist and founding member Odin De Sa. On returning with new music after four years, he added, “It’s been a while since that release and as a small Indian band from an even smaller state, it can be hard to fuel the need to get out there and put music out.”
Concocted meticulously, ‘Ceres’ is an artificial reality from a faraway future, where users submerge themselves in a world beyond today’s virtual reality and can explore multiple possibilities. Within Ceres are Odin De Sa, Kadesh Dsouza, Naizian Fernandes, Valiston Fernandes, Aaron Braganza, Samar Shinde, and Arnold Carvalho.
