Aksomaniac Releases Bossa Nova Inspired New Single, ‘Running’

Singer-songwriter and producer Aksomaniac etches out his new single ‘Running,’ a fresh take on fleeing from the weight of day-to-day burdens and finding solace when shrouding oneself in the world of music.
“This release is special to me because it represents a blend of influences that have shaped my musical journey. It’s a piece that resonates with my ongoing exploration of genres rooted in blues and jazz,” says Aksomaniac via a press release.
Musician Aron Selestin, who hails from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala and releases music under the moniker Aksomaniac, has stacked up yet another tantalizing offering on the heels of his genre-fluid EP ‘Explained Twice,’ released on August 31. Produced by regular collaborator Fatboi Raccoon, his latest single loops in vocalist Shreya, who lends her pristine vocal chops to the melody.
‘Running’ was shaped by Aksomaniac’s recurrent fantasy of escaping his mundane routine with nothing but his love of music and drew inspiration from the logistical difficulty of transporting a 44-kg digital piano around.
Picking up rhythmic strings and smooth key arrangements, playful guitar chords and lively percussive patterns soon ensue, marking an upbeat bossa nova-esque theme. Aksomaniac and Shreya co-chair vocal duties, striking up a flawless performance, uplifting the tune, and guiding listeners to a feel-good soundscape.
“The song is really about breaking free from the expectations and constraints that hold us back,” shared Aksomaniac in a press statement. “It’s a reflection of the desire to start over, to live life on your own terms, even if it’s just a dream.”
The artist goes on to mention, “I’ve always wanted to release a Bossa Nova track. While ‘Running’ isn’t pure Bossa Nova, it’s woven with its elements, fitting perfectly into my current exploration of Black musical traditions.”
