SOPHIE Scholarship Fund Announced to Help Women, Trans, and Non-Binary Students

MSMSMSM FOREVER has teamed up with We Are Moving The Needle to launch the SOPHIE Scholarship Fund to support women, non-binary and trans students.
In honor of the late electronic artist SOPHIE, grants of USD 5,000 and USD 10,000 will go to women, trans, and non-binary university students “pursuing degrees in music production, audio engineering, and related fields.” This fund will aid them by supporting them with tuition, fees, and books, and procuring equipment and supplies related to their course.
“Alongside @wearemovingtheneedle, we are proud to announce this scholarship fund in Sophie’s name. Sophie was passionate about the future of music, and, just like she did, we can’t wait to see many more women, trans and non-binary creators change the game,” MSMSMSM Forever announced on Instagram.
Founded by Grammy-winning masterer and mixer Emily Lazar, the non-profit organization ‘We Are Moving The Needle,’ has supported a number of women, trans, and non-binary creatives over the last four years with over USD 600,000 in scholarships. The US-based awardees of this scholarship who are enrolled in the Fall 2025 – Spring 2026 academic year will be notified by May 27, 2025
SOPHIE was an electronic music pioneer who died an untimely death in January 2021. Her contribution to music served as an inspiration to many music creators on a global scale. Her 2018 record ‘Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides’ received a Grammy nod for Best Dance/Electronic Album in 2019. SOPHIE’s posthumous final album featuring Nina Kraviz, Kim Petras, Hannah Diamond, and more came out last year in September.
