GIHON -‘ITERATIONS’ (Album)

Radiating progressive rock from “India’s Dystopian Dimension” is Texas-based alternative metal project GIHON, fronted by guitarist-composer Dhananjay Pepalla. His 10-track debut album, ‘ITERATIONS,’ packs a wallop and belts out an intense medley of roaring guitars and fierce percussions while weaving in serene vocal details.

Metal vocalist Sunneith Revanka lends his guttural voice to the ambient-coated, fierce opening number, ‘THE 7TH SEAL,’ as well as the hauntingly heavy-themed ‘THE DANCE.’ ‘WOKE’ carries rebellious undertones and amplifies melancholia through the voice of singer Merlyn James. ‘ECHOES’ whizzes past with its eerie and ominous sounds, laying the foundation for ‘DRIFT,’ a fiery prog rock score scorched with rabid guitars, drums, experimental textures, and the bellowing presence of multi-faceted artist Anna Carroll.

‘THE FORGE,’ which is presented as a “song of renewal,” concludes the 33-minute album and pairs tranquil string passages that split from dastardly modern progressive metal motifs and angelic crooning from singer Christina Rotondo.

Siyum- ‘3:31 am’

Himachal Pradesh’s multi-instrumentalist Siyum delivered his sophomore outing, ‘3:31 am,’ a stripped-back production shaped with plucky strings, rich harmonium features, and poignant key sequences. Siyum explores an acoustic experimental space on this release, while his delicate Hindi vocals transmit the silent pain of loss, expressing grief and longing in a way that is felt rather than shared. Workshopped in Siyum’s bedroom studio, the artist steps away from the usual verse–chorus format and breaks the mold of a typical acoustic song structure in a refreshing way. True to its title, the acoustic single lasts 3 minutes and 31 seconds.

Talking about the sound and the creative direction for this release, Siyum conveyed, “With 3:31 am, I wanted to test myself, to see if I could make an acoustic song within tight boundaries and still make it sound fresh, emotional, and experimental. I’ve always found that a lot of acoustic music today plays it a bit too safe, so this was my way of challenging that idea. From the start, I set strict rules: only acoustic guitar, no electric layers, no long solos, no drums, no overproduction. Just the essentials.”
