Chump Change Explores the Journey of Love in New Single, ‘Good Kid’

Dunedin-based four-piece indie pop tribe Chump Change makes another addition to their impressive resume of music releases with their latest drop, ‘Good Boy.’
Kiwi soft-rock band Chump Change pins 2023 with their second music release of the year, ‘Good Kid,’ a dreamy/alternative pop-rock single that draws attention to the journey of romance and the complications of young love. Relating the song to the finest beverages served at a lounge, the foursome describes it as the “summer feeling of a Pornstar Martini, the zest of a Negroni, and the twang of a Bloody Mary.”
‘Good Kid’ is Chump Change’s first studio production, written in their backyard and produced at Auckland’s multi-purpose music venue and recording studio, Big Fan. Touted as “woozy, summer, and romantic,” the band presents the newest outing as a “melt-in-in-your-mouth indie rock song that will fit perfectly into your summer roadie playlist.”
The track is a chill pop-rock ballad and presents a swaying, laidback theme, evoking a sense of melancholy. Far from the jumpy sonics of ‘Ocean Eyed Machine,’ ‘Good Kid’ is a toned-down offering with polished guitar rhythms and neat percussive patterns.
In a statement, the band said, “We usually produce all our songs by ourselves on our laptop, so we had a great first experience in the studio,” adding, “This is the sound we have been trying to achieve on our songwriting journey therefore naturally, we are pretty stoked with the end result of this song.”
