Mumbai-based musician Dhruv Kathuria emits an embodiment of a helplessly exhausted individual on ‘Another Day,’ his second single from his music project Almost Through, wheeling in singer/poet Zeiya Shay as a collaborator.
About the song, the artist shared via press note, “Another Day’ is the voice of our dormant mind in times of depression, inactivity, and the act of wanting to rot away your days. When everything in you is screaming for you to close the curtain and shut out the world, the weight and compulsion of acting normal is nearly impossible to bear.”
The makings of ‘Another Day’ trace back to a four to five-hour jam session at Dhruv’s home studio back in 2021, with Dhruv unearthing composition a year later. The guitarist and audio engineer plugs in themes of self-isolation, noticing the happenings and events around them while also fumbling at words to explain this disappearance.
Capturing music that speaks to a “walk into the darker side” – as read on Almost Through’s bio – the single picks up with strummy acoustic guitar laid over ominous-sounding synth work, light bass tugs, and periodic shakers chime in as Zeiya, in her first musical outing, delivers a stellar vocal display imbibing the weariness of the song, singing, and harmonizing over the bleak melody.
Zeiya also communicated, “Dhruv was patient and open with all my overly enthusiastic inputs on how much more miserable we can make it. Since this is my first song, I was very particular about my ideas, the vocal treatment and he’s done justice to all of them, heeding to all my issues even though he has exponentially more experience than me and was the one doing all the work after I did my part. Needless to say, I’m excited for all our potential collaborations in the future.”
