Charity Raves Held for a Good Cause

Rave with a purpose to raise funds for a good cause! Artists and organizers have hosted concerts or raves to reach out and help the vulnerable in our society, through charity concerts or by donating profits. We take a look at some such events where ravers moved with an aim in mind.

Rave to Save

The Rave to Save app donates EUR 1 for every 100 steps you take with the help of a wristband that attendees sync with the app. The wristband tracks how long you’ve danced and records step count! At Amnesia in Ibiza, ravers took a million steps in July 2022. The profits from this event went to charitable groups promoting inclusivity in nightlife, like the non-profit organization Women in Music.

With six events, this initiative helped raise EUR 64,000 (USD 74,142) in aid of diverse and inclusive dance music organizations. Those recording the most steps were rewarded with access to an exclusive Peggy Gou afterparty and free drinks. “The Rave to Save campaign highlights the fact that every partygoer has the power to positively impact the future of entertainment,” stated President of Women in Music, Nicole Barsalona. “Together, we can make the party-going experience safer for all.”

Hardwell – World’s Biggest Guestlist Concert

In 2015, Hardwell performed at the World’s Biggest Guestlist concert in Mumbai, India. Held in tandem with the United We Are Foundation and the United Welfare Fund at the DY Patil Stadium, with over 70,000 people in attendance, this event helped raise funds for the education of underprivileged children.

“In the nine years that I have been organizing such shows, I have noticed that there is an imbalance of economy and emotion. There is 95 percent economy and 5 percent emotion; it’s all about the checkbook. That’s why we wanted to dedicate this show to Hardwell’s fans as well as support a cause,” said organizer Shailendra Singh, as per Rolling Stone India. “He (Hardwell) agreed in no time! Plus, he has his own story for why he wants to be part of this — on one of his previous visits to India, he was moved by the sight of around 15 street kids sleeping under his own billboard.”

Relief is the Mission

Relief is the Mission is the concert held by Major Lazer to help those affected by the Irma and Maria hurricanes in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Islands. The benefit event took place at Mana Wynwood in Miami in October 2017, with the entirety of the ticket revenue being directed to Save the Children, Global Giving, and ComPRometidos. This concert was also livestreamed to generate further support for the cause and saw donations pour in over USD 2,000 within 24 hours. Bad Bunny and Machel Montano were also on the roster.

Ushuaïa Ibiza’s Charity Event Against Animal Cruelty

A power-packed roster of house and techno talents assembled at the popular club Ushuaïa Ibiza for a Music Against Animal Cruelty event with all profits going to wildlife conservation. Held in September 2018, the line-up for this party featured big names like Adam Beyer, Swedish techno DJ/producer Ida Engberg, US-based producer/DJ duo Bedouin, Art Department with special guest Black Coffee, and more.

Titled ‘Wild,’ this party was held to raise funds for wildlife conservation projects with a focus on Rhino Conservation Botswana and Lion Guardians Kenya. With the illegal wildlife trade being estimated to be worth billions of dollars, some species are facing a high risk of extinction. With this event at Ushuaïa Ibiza, Music Against Animal Cruelty fused entertainment with awareness about animal cruelty and charity. “This event helped us to raise awareness and funds for wildlife conservation. This was an amazing opportunity for our ambassadors to lead us and make a difference where it matters,” Music Against Animal Cruelty shared on Instagram.

KARMA

Berkeley-born KSHMR embarked on a six-city tour in India in 2017 with stops in Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. He performed at a concert in Delhi in October 2017 as part of this tour with a full live orchestra. This special gig called ‘KARMA’ was held with the purpose of helping raise funds for CRY – an Indian NGO that strives to improve the lives of marginalized children with programs focusing on education, safety and protection, health, nutrition, and more.
