PROPPAGANDA Ferries His DJ Set to the Depths of the Sea

California-based DJ/producer Bry Stevens, who operates under the moniker PROPPAGANDA, took his mastery behind the deck to new heights, or more accurately, depths.

The self-described “Dance Music’s Daredevil” plunged into the waters of the Atlantic Ocean bordering the Bahamas to produce a stunning, nearly hour-long mix.

Since its release online, PROPPAGANDA’s Sonar Sessions 001 – Live Mixing Surrounded By Sharks has amassed over two hundred thousand views on YouTube thus far. It was made possible with a team of professional divers, a film crew, shark experts, and the Project Hiu organization.

The presentation opens with PROPPAGANDA descending with his console in hand toward an abandoned vessel at the bottom of the ocean. After planting his setup on the sunken ship’s patio, the deep-sea DJ/diver can be seen sporting a protective shark suit while handing out morsels of food to the swarming sharks.

The video neatly packages alternating shots of the artist performing on a yacht called “Connect,” alongside frames of the artist pushing buttons underwater with sharks and other forms of aquatic life.

Although the specific technology, gear, equipment, and protective measures used for this feat below sea level are unclear, PROPPAGANDA has fired back at those who claim it to be an AI manufactured in the comments section of his Instagram. Furthermore, the console is seemingly modified to run underwater, as its lights are very much on.

PROPPAGANDA’s antics at sea are yet another instance of pushing the boundaries of where they can set up shop. In 2020, electronic artist Chet Porter made history with the world’s first underwater set, performing a thirty-minute livestream completely submerged in a swimming pool for Digital Mirage 2.0.
