Rushabh Roymon Reflects on Love and Freedom in Post-Punk Single, ‘Little Bird Fly Away’

Delhi-based independent artist Rushabh Roymon has delivered a new post-punk outing titled ‘Little Bird Fly Away,’ his fifth solo single and seventh overall music release.

A songwriter and astute lyricist before a vocalist, Rushabh Roymon’s latest single envisions “a journey of love, freedom, and transformation,” and according to the musician, “written as a letter of well-wishing.”

Rushabh’s ‘Little Bird Fly Away’ is steeped in wholesome post-punk motifs and takes a page from one of his inspirations, English rock band The Cure, and also seeps in works from fellow Delhi-based artists mixing engineer Sidharth Gupta and alternative/indie act Dohnraj.

In the works since 2022 and initially intended to be assembled as an acoustic composition, the solo punk artist switched things up after a jam session with members from his Jaded Clowns setup. You can find a raw cut of its earlier rendition on YouTube and Rushabh’s SoundCloud page.

The track boots off with delicious synth relays and tangible bass flicks, drafting an eerie yet upbeat rhythm. Jangly guitar strokes soon ensue to push forward a polished post-punk/gothic rock feel. Rushabh takes charge of the rhythm and lead guitar sections and also adds his greased vocals to the melody. Live drum recordings are also stitched into the single, a first for Rushabh.

Via press note, the songwriter-singer stated, “This song is my ‘Just Like Heaven’—it feels like an emotional release, wrapped in layers of sound and sentiment, a cathartic, uplifting moment captured in time. The collaborative energy brought a new dimension to the track, transforming it into something that resonated deeper and carried more weight than it originally had.”

The idea for the artwork, which bears an optimistic concept in three languages (English, Hindi, and Urdu) and the word ‘Azaadi’ or ‘Freedom’ in Urdu, is a “Postcard to Kashmir,” which was motivated by Rushabh’s personal ties to both the area and the individual for whom the song was initially composed. Designed in collaboration with Kashmir-based artist Mariyeh Mushtaq, the artwork also serves as an ode to singer Farida Khanum’s ‘Aaj Jane Ki Zid Na Karo‘ from ‘Meri Pasand Vol 1’ released in 1993, a song Rushabh is fond of.
