Unique Types of Raves You Should Know About!

From intimate gatherings to expansive festivals, the diversity of rave settings is nothing short of exhilarating.

From intimate gatherings to expansive festivals, the diversity of rave settings is nothing short of exhilarating. Pulsating music blasting through massive speakers, vibrant lights dancing across the venue, and a sea of people moving together, lost in the rhythm of sound and sensation. For many, raving is a thrilling escape and a celebration of freedom. We dive into some of the most distinctive and unique types of raves happening across the globe!

Glacier Rave

In 2018, Dubfire played a unique set in a chilling blue ice cave! Taking place 80 feet below the glacier, the Iranian-American house and techno producer/DJ made revelers groove to his tune in Europe’s second-largest glacier, Langjökull, for the Secret Solstice Festival. This stunning performance was restricted to 120 attendees. Other greats to get behind the deck under an Icelandic glacier are dance music superstar Martin Garrix and MK in 2019.

Rave on Rails

Imagine being on a train, and whilst enjoying a scenic route, you can also groove to some fiery tracks? 50:Hertz House & Techno Cafe Rembrandt Square made it possible! Eight trains transformed into clubs for Amsterdam Dance Event, which took place from October 16 – 20 last year, with the trains departing on Friday with a capacity of 300 people and a roster of DJs lined up to dish out tunes for the journey across the Netherlands. These trains included 4 sections, 2 “club” wagons, and 2 “chill out” wagons. Attendees paid €50 for the four-hour ticket!

Woof Doof

As the growing trend of sober raves is picking up, Spotify teamed up with Doglateria café in Australia to double the fun! The event called on dog lovers with their four-legged friends for a “bop with the goodest girl or boy in your life with our woof doof DJ,” as per the flyer shared on social media. “Australia’s first-ever Woof Doof” featured a live DJ set from Adam Thomas. The first 50 dogs to make an entrance to this event were offered Dogletaria’s new gelato and Spotify merchandise.

“Cafés in the area and around the world are playing rave music, so we thought we shouldn’t miss this opportunity,” Doglateria owner Oscar Vallejo told Today, as per EDM.com. The volume for the music was dog-friendly, 55 and 60 decibels. There was no charge for this event.

Algorave

If you’re someone who is into coding, this one is for you! Algorave is the art of making music through coding. You will see the artist typing away codes onto their computers, sending them commands to play beats and the instructions the DJ is feeding into the computer are reflected on a big screen.

Underwater Rave

Desperados threw a party 40 meters underwater near Venice. Called Hard House, this underwater rave was held at Y-40, known as the deepest man-made swimming pool on the planet. Donning special helmets that transmitted music, the ravers enjoyed live DJ sets from Artwork and Peggy Gou as the exciting setup from Elrow enhanced the vibe of the party. Ravers could swim, move, and have a fun-filled, unique experience of raving underwater.

Morning or Sober Raves

Imagine this: It’s the weekend! Your alarm rings, you brush your teeth, put on the pre-planned outfit and dancing shoes, and head to a rave. Yes, you read that correctly. Sounds strange, right? Sober/morning raves are slowly picking up and taking place in NYC, London, Amsterdam, Bangkok, Hong Kong, and India. These alcohol and drug-free raves may include watching the sunrise, doing yoga, going on a run, and getting coffee, smoothies, kombuchas, matcha or snacks while aiming for wellness and inclusivity – often becoming a new way to meet people.

These morning raves are perfect for people who want to trade hangovers for kicking off their day by dancing to beats laid down by the DJ after a good run, other fitness activity or yoga session. With a focus on community, socializing, and dancing, this is your go-to type of rave if you want to take a pause from nightclubs or alcohol or if they’re not your vibe altogether.
