This event was held to celebrate the 75th birthday of the Slovak Catholic prelate Bernard Bober. Held in front of St. Elisabeth’s Cathedral, a 14th-century Gothic cathedral in Košice, Slovakia, Catholic priest and Padre Guilherme turned the joyous celebration into a dance music event on November 8. Strobe lights, LED screens, lasers, and a DJ booth were all a part of the event.
The video of attendees dancing and enjoying themselves in this surprising setting went viral on social media, gaining a lot of traction from people worldwide. “Dear Young People,” Pope Leo XIV started his pre-recorded video message. “With joy I greet you as you gather before this splendid cathedral of Kosice, which is a beating heart of faith and hope.”
“Coming from different nations, yet united by the same faith, your presence is a tangible sign of the fraternity and peace that is instilled in our hearts by friendship with Christ,” Pope Leo XIV said in a message projected onto an LED screen at the event. “Do not be afraid, then, to show that you are Christians, to live the gospel with enthusiasm, and to share the joy that springs from encountering the Lord.”
The priest behind the decks who laid down tunes and mixed tracks is Padre Guilherme, who began his side quest as a DJ during the pandemic. “Electronic music, faith and a beautiful night that will remain in our memories on the celebration of the 75th birthday of Archbishop Mons. Bernard Bober,” he wrote while sharing a video of the event with attendees putting their hands in the air. Guilherme, who has been a priest since 1999, has taken the Dreamfields México Festival, Medusa Sunbeach Festival, and Authentica Festival stage in Portugal as well as performed at World Youth Day in Lisbon.
