Shipwrecked Festival 2025 Brings Carl Craig, Madmotormiquel and More

A colorful explosion of music, art, dance, sound, and lighting emits from the shores of the Kiwi North Island coastline via the upcoming Shipwrecked Music and Arts Festival. Boutique open-air music and arts festival Shipwrecked, from Logan Baker and crew, unfurls its 2025 showcase from February 7 to 9. The promoters assure attendees and folks of their Shipwrecked Community Hub, a tantalizing buffet spread of bass, drum & bass, house, and techno music coupled with visual artists, projections, multiple installations, and a bevy of workshops. Raising the anchor and setting sail course for music will be staples of the Kiwi music scene Paige Julia, Chiccoreli & Tali, Te Manu Collective, Matt Rapid, Guitarman Luke, 1Tribe, Strangely Arousing, Bobby Brazuka, AlleyKat, Jake Rattler, Skelta, Mia Kober, Dylan C, Truth, Dale Rohan, and SOJØURN, to list a few. Inbound international artists include the likes of Carl Craig (USA), Germans Ian Pooley, Madmotormiquel, and Madmoiselle, Kerry Wallace and Mazuko from Australia, JStar (UK), CHKLTE (USA), MiNOA (Sweden/Spain), Fabian Krooss, Midas 104, and more.

Electronic and live music performances will be held across the venue at stages Humming Hut, Hidden Reef, and the Shipwrecked main stage. Find the entire artist card via the Shipwreck website.

Away from the flaming sound systems discharging bass, jungle, house, reggae, and ska vibes, stitched into the Shipwrecked itinerary as always are wellness programs and workshops at The Cove arena. This year ties in flower sticks and juggling from Tony Melton, crochet classes from Janice Lee, a cacao ceremony from Maryam Al-Roubaibai, and more (check out the full schedule). Interactive visuals in the form of installations and lighting projections will be spread across the venue, while vendors at the food and marketplace will supply festival treats, merchandise, and other provisions.

Tickets purchased include camping in the tent camp area; however, vehicles require a vehicle pass. The campground harbors restrooms, cold showers, and drinking water. Via assistance from the team at Waste Wizards, Shipwrecked asserts that they have “diverted over 90% of the waste from the landfill in the previous years” and will continue to strive to do so and make this festival a zero-waste event. Some initiatives to help this endeavor include beverages served in environmentally friendly stainless steel cups, endorsing carpooling and ride-share and bus travel, and setting up trash bins for rubbish, compost, and recycling.

Vocalist and guitarist Jordan Jones of the New Plymouth-based alt-rock outfit The Mara spoke with us ahead of Shipwrecked 2025, stating the group was “thrilled to be part of Shipwrecked this February.” Jones went on to explain, “It’s a festival we’ve admired for years, and it’s such an honor to see our name on the lineup alongside some of New Zealand’s finest, including Strangely Arousing, Sojourn, and Tali. Te Arai is a stunning spot, and we’re definitely planning to soak up the ocean vibes with a pre-and post-gig dip.”

Talking about their upcoming performance, the artist said, “Our set will bring a vibrant, genre-bending indie rock experience, blending flavors from Latin American, Middle Eastern, and Eastern European traditions with a Kiwi summer twist. You can expect songs like ‘Did You Believe,’ a breezy indie surf rock tune with mysterious Latin American chord progressions and spicy twists, and ‘Mr. Professor Man,’ which combines punky anthem rock with a ska revival flair, complete with accordion and horns. When we mix rock, jazz, funk, ska, reggae, dub, and indie pop, magical things happen, and we can’t wait to see the crowd entranced in a state of dance and HYPE.

Praised as the “hypiest” band in New Zealand right now by an attendee at a recent show, Jordan added, “Folks might need a cold plunge after dancing to our set.”

Folks can also march into the Zolaverse, where Aotearoa-born and Hong Kong-bred singer-songwriter Zola Nova lights up the Humming Hut stage. Making their first festival appearance in New Zealand, a display that is “surreal, meditative and idiosyncratic,” is what you can look forward to from Zola Nova.
