Mumbai/Delhi musical pair NEE KO has released their debut single, a creamy multilingual ballad pinned with a medley of retro, pop, disco, and glitzy Bollywood themes.
Vocalist-producer Aneesha and DJ/producer Konark Sikka link up to shape NEE KO, a genre-twisting unit with a vision of sculpting productions that merge worlds of Bollywood, indie, disco, pop, and electronic music.
Seamlessly executing this concept, the two cast out their first single, ‘Raat Ki Raani,’ a slick disco ballad rooted as a musical ode to the ever-buzzing city of Mumbai.
Marrying Aneesha’s steamy vocals with Konark’s groovy production, the duo pipes out a memorable outing, marked with lush synthy textures, funky indie dance beats, and rhythmic horn-esque pumps subtly mimicking all the honking you hear around Mumbai city.
The writing and composition of this track stretch back to Aneesha working on it in 2022, then spending a year under the lens of Konark Sikka, and eventually being seasoned with the final touches from Ardon Rumnong.
Conceptualized and directed by Mumbai-based filmmaker Shrey, the visuals capture the bittersweet reality of pursuing dreams in Mumbai. It sees Aneesha portraying the enchanting allure of Mumbai city, and cuts to scenes of an artist hustling across streets from the time of his arrival, seeking to answer a casting call for a theatre production titled ‘Raat Ki Raani.’ Konark makes a brief cameo appearance from what looks like a rundown airplane hangar.
