Ahead of her debut Bombabomb event in Mumbai, we caught up with FeniFina to talk about what the event represents for her, the cultural roots behind it, and how she hopes audiences will experience and engage with her vision.

One thing that’s been clear about FeniFina ever since she set foot on Indian shores is that, beyond being an incredibly talented artist and tastemaker, she’s also a natural community builder. Right from the outset, she’s woven a strong sense of purpose and collaboration into her work through her genre-fluid shows, collective-led initiatives, grassroots cyphers, or her consistent drive to uplift others while carving her own path. She’s been doing it all at a relentless pace, without compromising authenticity, intensity, or the passion that fuels her.

A tenacious, breakneck pace of multi-genre shows, collective initiatives, and explosive cyphers has been the blueprint of her pursuits, with each endeavor radiating the same uncompromising intensity and passion for bringing people together. After crisscrossing the country with game-changing events, FeniFina is now poised to deliver her most ambitious fusion yet through Bombabomb: a seismic collision of revelry and revelation, where underground energy meets industry wisdom.

At the heart of Bombabomb lies its game-changing workshop, a no-fluff masterclass in turning artistry into agency. From 5-7 PM at Khar Social on May 11, IPRS Music will decode the royalty maze so artists finally understand how to secure their bag, while Iridescent Kaleidoscope teaches the alchemy of building a brand that resonates locally but travels globally. Krantinaari shifts the paradigm entirely, showing how to weaponize creativity for tangible impact.

Three lucky artists will even score a career-altering 3-month mentorship with industry powerhouse Serena Vora of SOVO Inc. But the real magic happens in the room itself, where every connection made could spark the next big collaboration. This is where the underground gets its playbook.

With that in mind, we caught up with FeniFina to explore the origin story behind Bombabomb, how the event aims to be a physical and cultural zone where music, knowledge, and community collide, the message she’s embedding in it, and what she hopes people will take away from this bold new chapter in her journey.

TFword: What sparked the idea behind Bombabomb? Was there a particular moment or influence that set it in motion?
FeniFina:  It all began as a clothing brand that I initially created for my music videos—a way to promote Indian artisans and support local communities. Instead of pushing international brands, I wanted to spotlight homegrown designs, blending traditional Indian aesthetics with contemporary Western styles. That was the original vision for Bo Bombabomb.

But when I released music in 2020, the pandemic hit, and the project had to take a backseat. However, by 2023-24, I realized Bombabomb could be more than just fashion—it could become a movement.

That’s when I hosted the first Bombabomb event, with a mission to unite the desi hip-hop and artist community under one roof. It wasn’t just about celebrating creativity; it was also about bringing music executives into the room, creating networking opportunities, and helping artists elevate their craft in meaningful ways.

TF: How did you approach curating the line-up for the event? Were there any specific sounds, styles, or values you prioritized?
FeniFina: When curating the Bombabomb lineup for Bombay, my primary focus was artist development—something the city lacks sufficient opportunities for. That’s why I structured the event around workshops led by industry veterans who understand both the creative and business sides of music.

I brought in Krantinaari, known for her international music workshop experience, and Jessica from Mox Asia—a former Rolling Stone India editor who co-founded her own creative agency along with Nirmika. Seeing women in my field take bold steps like launching their own ventures was deeply inspiring.

Additionally, we have Serena, a music industry veteran now running her own North American creative agency. With her husband’s background as Meta’s former music business head in India, her branding mentorship will be invaluable for attending artists. These experts were carefully chosen to equip emerging talent with the tools to elevate their craft and navigate the industry.

The sound we’re championing is rooted in independent hip-hop, but we’re blending it with global influences—especially Caribbean and Afro vibes. That Toronto energy is my personal touch, adding a tropical flavor to the mix. At its core, though, this is about uplifting Mumbai’s local hip-hop scene and supporting our independent artist community.

TF: You’ve included a workshop as part of the event; can you share the vision behind that and what attendees can expect?
FeniFina: The vision behind this workshop was simple: to connect artists with the right mentors and resources to help grow their music careers. Many independent artists lack access to these kinds of professional networks—often, they’d have to attend expensive conferences to get this level of guidance.

That’s why we’re making this first session free. It’s about showing there’s a real need for artist development in our city. We’re covering crucial topics like IPRS registration—something many artists don’t realize is essential for collecting royalties and accessing government support. Having IPRS lead a free session means every attending artist can walk away with practical knowledge to protect and monetize their work.

TF: What kind of experience or message do you hope people walk away with after attending Bombabomb?
FeniFina: I want every Bombabomb attendee to leave with two powerful realizations: First, that they belong to a genuine community—not just as artists, but as valued individuals. Second, it’s our collective responsibility to create growth opportunities for emerging talent.

I’ve seen too many gifted artists in this city who just need the right support to break through. That’s why I’ve carefully curated this workshop with industry leaders who can provide real career elevation.

Beyond the practical takeaways, I want people to feel the electric energy of our scene—to recognize that artists are the true value creators in this ecosystem. This event is about reclaiming that narrative and celebrating the indispensable role artists play in shaping culture.

TF: How does Bombabomb reflect your personal taste or philosophy when it comes to music and events?
FeniFina: Bombabomb isn’t just a name—it’s me. It’s a raw, energetic Marathi-Hindi word that only makes sense in Bombay, a city of beautiful chaos and cultural fusion. As someone half-Marathi, half-[other ethnicity], born and raised here, the word lives in all three languages I speak. It’s my roots.

But Bombabomb also means chaos—organized chaos. That’s the energy I’m bringing to hip-hop and the independent scene. Look at the lineup: it’s wild, intentional, and unapologetically Bombay. Just like me—a mix of Toronto’s cool and Bombay’s fire. That’s Bombabomb. That’s the movement.

TF: Why do you think events like Bombabomb are important for the local music and the creative community?
FeniFina: Events like Bombabomb are crucial—I don’t think anyone in the scene right now is curating lineups like this. We’ve got the city’s best DJs spanning hip-hop, electronic, UK garage, and beyond, plus flavors of Afro, dancehall, and reggae layered with raw hip-hop fundamentals.

But it’s more than just sound. We’re showcasing the full spectrum: battle rappers, rising stars like Yogi and Zedano, King Sinister repping Bangalore, and headliners proving there’s artistry beyond just bars—because commercial success demands more. I hope the younger artists at the workshop and cipher absorb these lessons.

Then there’s next-level talent like Jungle Assembly (top 10 beatboxers globally) and Hustle’s Danish. Every act is here to electrify. This is a 360-degree musical experience where emerging artists witness the grind and the glory.

TF: How do you see Bombabomb contributing to the cultural or underground scene in your city?
FeniFina: As I was saying earlier, the most important thing Bombabomb is doing is bringing the community together. It’s a cultural movement. My tagline, “Culture Amplified,” really captures the essence of what I’m aiming for.

I did something similar in Toronto back in January 2024. That event sparked a shift in how many organizers viewed community-building. It went beyond the usual social media hype and Instagram aesthetics — it was about creating real impact and authentic connections. At my event, Bombabomb, we had artists, music executives, and A&Rs in attendance, including Majha (CEO and founder of DesiFest) and Aman Mattoo (A&R at Azadi Records). While I invited them to be part of the community, what naturally unfolded was powerful — they discovered and connected with emerging artists. That wasn’t my main goal, but it’s the beauty of real networking: organic opportunities.

My core intention with Bombabomb Toronto was to strengthen the community through meaningful connections. And the impact of that Toronto event didn’t stop there. The artists who participated went on to form their own collective called Mach 6ix — a group that now hosts monthly Desi hip hop cyphers in Toronto. That moment helped unify the Desi hip hop scene across languages and backgrounds. It expanded beyond just Punjabi rap to include Hindi, Marathi, and other regional languages. It truly energized the underground scene in Canada.

Now, I’m working to bring that same energy and purpose to Bombay, to unite the community and give artists the tools they need to elevate their craft.

TF: How important is diversity, in terms of sound, identity, or background, to the way Bombabomb is built?
FeniFina: Diversity is definitely important to me, even with Bombabomb. Since this is my first event, I’m currently focusing on artist development, but I also want to introduce new sounds to the city. For example, in Toronto, we featured genres like reggae, dancehall, soca — a lot of music with Caribbean influence. I know that in India, people love Afrobeat and tropical sounds, so my goal is to bring that same vibrant energy to Bombabomb here.

At the same time, the event will stay deeply rooted in the local artist community. Supporting homegrown talent is a core part of the vision. I want to give local artists a platform to perform, while also creating opportunities for A&Rs and music executives to discover and connect with emerging talent in the city.
