SD Union Unleashes Degs, LSB, Monrroe, and Sustance at Spin Nightclub

For their second SD Union this year, United By Bass is set to map out yet another vicious showcase, headlined by four explosive DnB heavyweights from the UK. The show returns to revamp the walls of Spin Nightclub in San Diego on March 27 with a massive line-up, paired with a Monarch Metamorphosis stage takeover! Revelry commences at 9:30 PM, with tickets to SD Union with Degs, LSB, Monrroe, Sustance and more available through Ticket Fairy.

United By Bass welcomes back producer, singer-songwriter, and MC Degs, who arrives as part of his ongoing North America tour spanning nine stops across the U.S. and Canada. Degs returns to the SD Union setup on the heels of unleashing the second season of his drum & bass podcast and live stream, Degscast, which has six episodes out thus far.

Also notching up another appearance at SD Union is London-based drum & bass savant Sustance. He strides in fresh off dropping a new DnB single, ‘Digital Waveband‘ (which sits atop his forthcoming EP ‘Fantazia’), and channels the raw energy of 90s rave culture with a modern drum & bass twist.

Joining Sustance with his liquid-infused melodic DnB sound is Monrroe. Together, they are currently navigating a dual headliner tour across North America, barraging stages in Denver, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Puerto Rico, Orlando, and Miami en route to San Diego. Their month-long run concludes with gigs in Honolulu and Seattle.

Essex-born drum & bass producer trailblazer Luke Beavon, best known as LSB, brings his melancholic, emotive soundscapes and smooth rolling beats to close out the fiery quadruple headliner booking in Area 1 of the venue. MC Ridda and Chemistry MC also feature, alongside LA-based DnB force NOVELLA.

Area 2 is powered by promoters Monarch Metamorphosis. Multi-talented artist Jason Splat, DJ/producer Swan Dive, veteran DJ Daemia – known for carving out rolling liquid basslines to dark and grimy neurofunk – and BadKat Sonics are set to take over this space.

Ahead of the show, we caught up with DnB connoisseur NOVELLA, who has earned a reputation for sealing in a blast of energy, sound, and intention during her sessions.

Talking about her set, NOVELLA conveyed, “I’ll be playing a liquid drum and bass set for the first time: something melodic, soulful, and uplifting. I love that liquid has such emotional range. It’s the music I find myself returning to at both the highest and lower points in my life, and I believe that’s what makes it so powerful. I’m excited to blend newer selections with older tracks that have stayed with me over the years.”

“It’s a huge privilege to be part of this lineup with Degs, LSB, Monrroe, and Sustance. These artists have inspired me for a long time, and we’re incredibly fortunate to have them travel to the U.S. to share their music with our community,” she added.

During our exchange, NOVELLA further chimed in on how drum & bass shaped her path and why the community around the genre means so much to her. She conveyed, “Drum and bass is truly my community in Los Angeles. I fell in love with drum and bass when I was studying abroad in the UK many years ago, and I was ecstatic when I found out that we have so many international artists regularly making the trip to Southern California, thanks to crews like United by Bass, Respect Drum and Bass, and Timeless pushing the culture forward. SD Union’s 15 years of dedication to music, artists, and the San Diego community have helped create a space where drum and bass can really thrive.”

Concluding our conversation, NOVELLA touched on an essential part of DnB culture, MCs, and why their role matters most today. “I also want to highlight the MCs on the lineup: MC Ridda and Chemistry MC. MC culture is such an essential part of drum and bass history and the live experience. As the US scene continues to expand, it’s crucial that we continue to honor and celebrate this tradition,” she said.
