Artists Can Now Sell Music Directly to Fans on SoundCloud

100% of the sales will also go to the artists.

100% of the sales will also go to the artists.

In an effort to make SoundCloud not only the place to discover underground artists and new music but also take things further, the platform will now let artists sell music directly to fans in formats including MP3 and WAV. According to a blog post on the platform, SoundCloud will take zero commission on music sales. This means all the proceeds from each sale, excluding standard fees and taxes, will go to the artists.

SoundCloud launched a beta of direct music purchases earlier this month, with about 200 U.S.-based Artist Pro creators having access to sell music directly on their profile. This will eventually be rolled out to eligible creators later this year. With this new feature, fans will no longer have to leave SoundCloud to purchase an artist’s music. Artists will be able to set their prices for tracks and make existing music available for purchase in formats like MP3 and WAV. Music sales can also be tracked using Artist Studio and the Fan Support Dashboard on SoundCloud.

This comes after SoundCloud’s All-in-One Artist Subscription announcement last year, which lets creators distribute their music and keep 100% of the royalties, avail on-demand vinyl pressing, offer merch, ticketing and even include a “Support” button for listeners to donate to the artists (with artists keeping 100% of this contribution).

“Artists should be able to build their audience in one place, on one platform,” SoundCloud CEO, Eliah Seton said. “SoundCloud has always been where artists find their first fans and build real communities. We’re continuing to bring more of what they need to grow their careers into that same experience, while letting fans directly support the music they love.”

At least 250,000 artists have linked more than 2.4 million tracks to external parties. An upward of half a million users have been sent outside of SoundCloud to buy music. Now, creators can upload their music, reach new listeners and a wider audience, receive support directly from fans and sell music and merch, on-demand vinyls, all on SoundCloud itself!
