Indo Warehouse Collaborates with Raja Kumari for ‘Bombay Acid’

Deep house connoisseur from Indo Warehouse, Kunal Merchant, joins forces with Grammy-nominated rapper and singer Raja Kumari for the hypnotic offering.

Deep house connoisseur from Indo Warehouse, Kunal Merchant, joins forces with Grammy-nominated rapper and singer Raja Kumari for the hypnotic offering.

A debut release on the influential UK label Crosstown Rebels, ‘Bombay Acid’ is a groovy homage to Mumbai, a city that is always moving and buzzing with rhythm and energy around every corner.

Talking to his fans on social media, Merchant said, “The song is about a whimsical night out in Mumbai. If you’ve ever been to Mumbai, you know exactly what I am talking about.”

The three-minute track draws inspiration from works of late Bollywood session musician, composer, and producer Charanjit Singh, in particular his 1982 record ‘Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat.’ This album, now considered one of the earliest examples of acid house, has gained a massive cult following through the years, despite flopping during the time of its release.

‘Bombay Acid’ revives that euphoric feeling for today’s dance floors while staying true to its influences. It opens with Raja Kumari’s silky vocals pressed against an electro-desi soundscape and smoothly courses into a medley of bleeping bass elements, deep house tones, and an outpour of rich Indian textures, courtesy of Kunal Merchant.

Kunal Merchant, co-founder of Indo Warehouse, shared via a press release, “I’ve been a student of Crosstown Rebels for many years — the label’s depth and diversity has always inspired me. When Damian (Damian Lazarus, head honcho at Crosstown Rebels) wanted to release ‘Bombay Acid’, I really felt seen. This record epitomizes everything I strive for: it’s hypnotic, it’s unexpected, and it fuses worlds to create a new universe.”

On Raja Kumari, he added, “Having Raja involved will both surprise and intrigue people, but we’re kindred spirits who believe music is boundless. Her blessing on this track is a true signal that our Indo House sound is here to stay.”
