One-half of the legendary Artificial Intelligence duo has made his first release on Goldie’s label with a vibrant three-track offering.
The one thing that the drum & bass fraternity will be eternally grateful to Glenn Herweijer and Zula Warner aka Artificial Intelligence for is the joy their music has given us. Whether experiencing their performances or immersing oneself in their music, Artificial Intelligence possesses the remarkable ability to evoke profound human emotions. Their passionately charged melodies, combined with the distinctive rhythm of their high-syncopated drums, has the power to evoke the most profound human emotions.
Equally important has been their label – Integral Records; and as you can tell from the name, the imprint has been hugely influential in shaping the modern liquid drum & bass sound. A mix of Artificial Intelligence’s own output, alongside a solid mix of some of the most talented and revered producers of the scene, Integral Records has been the mainstay of the underground liquid sound.
Following their groundbreaking work throughout the history of liquid funk, the duo chose to branch out creatively, with Glenn Herweijer from the pair forming his solo project under the name EIJER. The soul, the pulsation, the atmospherics that we love from a liquid drum & bass number—it’s all there, and EIJER is offering it with a rolling and dubby twist.
After making his debut with ‘Call Me’ alongside Satl on Lenzman’s North Quarter Recordings, EIJER has delivered his first full release on Metalheadz with the ‘Expansion’ EP. Some of Artificial Intelligence’s finest work has come through Metalheadz and EIJER’s solo excursions serve as a powerful extension, with heavier, darker productions on his debut EP.
The EP starts with the rolling and eerie expeditions of ‘Black Daruma’ whose subtle bass growls flow superbly alongside its percussions. Then comes the title track, which, to put it simply, is an amalgamation of the EIJER, Artificial Intelligence, Integral Records and Metalheadz sounds packed into one. Closing a solid debut on Metalheadz, EIJER takes us into his atmospheric tones and emotional melodies that shine through here over a backbone of rolling beats and warm bass.
