Red Rum Touring drenches Auckland’s Darby Street with flushes of UK garage, 2-step, speed garage, and breakbeat on September 7, winching in a high-octane session from Leeds-based heavy hitter Soul Mass Transit System. The nominee for ‘Breakthrough Producer’ in DJ Mag’s 2022 Best of British Awards is currently programmed to cocoon venues in Wellington, Christchurch, Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Goldcoast, Canberra, Brisbane, and Adelaide, with his refined brand of electronic dance music right through September 2024. Soul Mass Transit System even dubbed this adventure down under as “the cherry on top” via social media, referring to the year he has had so far.
Speaking with The Gryphon, The Official Student Newspaper of the University of Leeds, Soul Mass Transit System opened up about the many Simpsons references on his social media profile and also his stage moniker. He said, “….just a big fan of it really got most of my alias names from fairly obscure references from it, kinda all started when I did the first EP back in 2018/19 and was looking for names to put it under since its quite diff from what I did before. Think I thought of a few and Soul Mass Transit System just kind of stuck.”
In the same interview, the artist also admitted that he does not spend too much of his time listening to electronic music and revealed, “I find that most the time I’m listening to it, it’s to sort the Rekordbox and that out. I mostly listen to reggae/dancehall and new age/ambient stuff.”
