The ‘servin’ up cutting edge drum & bass’ spirit of the label just got better with the ‘Seventeen’ LP.
The label’s name alone speaks volumes of its significance and dedication to the drum & bass craft. Personifying their commitment to pushing the genre’s boundaries with integrity and finesse, Integral Records have been home to some of the tidiest, emotionally resonant, and innovative drum & bass music since their inception in 2007.
For nearly two decades, the essence of the label has been to remain faithful to the genre while venturing into new dimensions, and there’s a compelling rationale behind this approach. The collaboration between Zula Warner and Glenn Herweijer, recognized collectively as Artificial Intelligence, has consistently established a benchmark for innovative, carefully constructed, and genre-defying drum & bass since 2002. They have effectively integrated their principles and created a label identity that is both progressive and influential.
Starting with genre-favorite tunes like Dangerous Liaison by Zero T and Alix Perez, to the delicate rhythms of ‘Ever So Slightly’ by Lenzman, Technimatic’s high-energy liquid sound, to their adventures with Dawn Wall, Integral Records has long been a drum & bass powerhouse. Combining their unmatched quality of bringing heavyweights and pushing fresh talent on the label, Integral Records has carved out a legacy by pushing the genre in powerful, futuristic directions with releases that feel both otherworldly and modern.
2024 marks a significant milestone for Integral Records as they celebrate an impressive seventeen years in the game. Renowned for its relentless innovation, the label has established a strong reputation for its progressive vision, seamlessly merging state-of-the-art production techniques with enduring musical elements. To commemorate this journey, Integral has curated a breathtaking compilation titled ‘Seventeen.’
The album traverses a wide range of sounds, featuring atmospheric rollers that delve into deep grooves, soaring liquid tracks poised to become anthems of the future, and hard-hitting tech-driven bangers that deliver a powerful impact.
Starting with GLXY’s fuzzy remix of label bosses Artificial Intelligence’s ‘Drowning,’ AudioDevice pulls it back with deep, moody and vocal-led number. Zero T brings his signature stabs on ‘Smokescreen’ before Mohican Sun’s entry with the tribal-influenced offering ‘Vudu.’ Integral’s rising star TZ joins the ‘Seventeen’ LP with his swiftly recognizable aesthetics, followed by Zero T’s re-entry into the album with a smashing remix of ‘High & Low’ by Lenzman.
Djah brings the classic rolling liquid Integral sound on ‘Draughts’ and makes way for Satl’s sultry remix for Phil Tangent and Steo’s ‘Bedouin.’ Label heads Artificial Intelligence come through with their poignant offering ‘Twisted Love’ before welcoming Archangel, Soul Motion and Phil Tangent on two delightful rollers.
Minos joins the Integral tribe with the shiny and nostalgia-inducing ‘Ninth Sky’ to mark the departure of the ‘Seventeen’ LP, where Thread heats things up with grimey ‘Groove.’ Satl comes back with an original, this time with ‘Magma’ as another unknown entity from Integral Records named Tatora delivers a steppy rendition of their original ‘Confessions.’ Fluidity then begins with the task of closing this gorgeous release with ‘End Of The Line’ before handing it over to Philth & Phil Tangent’s project Phil:osophy to culminate yet another incredible chapter in the label’s celebrated book.
Whether you’re a long-time fan or a newcomer to the scene, this compilation promises to deliver something special for everyone, solidifying Integral Records as a cornerstone of modern drum & bass.
