Artisteverse Partners With Iconic Folk-Rock Outfit Indian Ocean on New Immersive Experience

In collaboration with Metastar Media’s Artisteverse portal, pioneering fusion rock band Indian Ocean marked another milestone moment in their legendary career, via their new immersive and interactive 3D metaverse platform.

Launched on November 1, 2024, this 3-D portal offers fans a deep dive into the band’s journey from the 1990s and also coincides with the group’s 35th anniversary. Indian Ocean’s Artisteverse serves up screenings of their films and documentaries available exclusively on the platform, as well as access to new releases, official merchandise, limited edition artworks, and listening sessions.

The brains behind this project are Metastar Media, a Web3 media tech start-up founded in April 2022 with the intent to develop an “artiste-first” ecosystem using Web 2 + Web3 technologies and 3D Immersive experiences. Their website lists two verticals: Artisteverse, a direct-to-fan platform enabling fans to travel into the virtual world of an artiste/label, and Aurionsphere, an exclusive event space in the metaverse for virtual concerts and avatar-based profiles.

Artisteverse, already harboring virtual explorations of the careers of singer-songwriter Manasi Scott, tabla maestro Bickram Ghosh, prominent Bharatanatyam dancer Priyadarsini Govind, sitar virtuoso Purbayan Chatterjee, now add the full force of the mighty Indian Ocean to their ranks.

“Indian Ocean are true pioneers in every sense and the fact that they are still going strong after 35 years is a testament to their ability to appeal to music lovers across generations and their amazing connection with them. We wanted to take that relationship to the next level,” says Metaverse founder Shatadru Sarkar in a statement to the press.

“With their Artisteverse platform, fans of the band will be able to take a deep dive into their journey and rich legacy like never before, and literally immersive themselves in everything that is Indian Ocean.”

Bassist of the band Rahul Ram also expressed, “We had a lot of fun putting together things about ourselves – some of which even we didn’t know – and some questions which we explored and we would love people to come in and find out more about all aspects of the band. You can hear our music repeatedly on any platform, you can watch a concert but that goes by in a flash but here in our direct-to-fan artiste-verse, you can immerse yourself in the world of Indian Ocean.”

“A journey of 35 years is not possible without the support of our incredible fans, and we wanted to create a space where we can give back to our fan community,” conveyed drummer Amit Kilam, who has been a part of the band since 1994. “Our Artisteverse is an immersive and interactive format that will make it more interesting and engaging than typical social media platforms. And it’s where fans can enjoy access to exclusive music, merchandise, NFTs, and new videos.”

A walk-through of this virtual arena takes you to a huge lounge area, placing a huge screen to the left showcasing live performances of the band. In this space, you take a trip down memory lane, strolling through some of the earliest works of the Indian Ocean as well as peek into their studio setup, jam to a karaoke session, and visit their online store. All posters, artwork, images, charity placards as well as the Chinese drum are clickable and provide corresponding information as well as videos. An open-air theatre setting called ‘Indian Ocean Talkies’ harbors watchable films such as ‘Beware Dogs’ and Leaving Home: The Life & Music of Indian Ocean.’
