London’s freshest export, Sam Robins aka DJ/producer BVNQUET, talks to us about his arrival to pull apart Neck Of The Woods in Auckland with his infectious brand of UK garage music for the first time on January 26, 2025. A former Jazz student and now in-demand UK garage/house artist, BVNQUET’s career has only continued to skyrocket in 2025, from his unmissable take on Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s 2001 hit ‘Murder on the Dancefloor‘ to a bevy of well-received and endorsed music releases and also being picked up by Defected Records’ newly launched UKG label Bad Decisions. Tickets to BVNQUET’s show in Auckland are brought to you by Ticket Fairy.
It was only in September 2024 that BVNQUET embarked on an eight-city ‘Welcome to the BVNQUET’ headlining debut tour of the UK, in which he packed multiple venues to the maximum, notably the 500+ capacity World Headquarters Club in Newcastle upon Tyne. BVNQUET makes his first impression in Australia and New Zealand as part of a tour planned for six cities. These include halts in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, Auckland, Perth, and Byron Bay.
BVNQUET described his set as “high energy bumpy garage, fast mixing, genre switches, unreleased originals, dubplates, and big vibes” ahead of the ninth edition of Defected Croatia, and attendees can anticipate more of the same during this tour.
The ‘Bringing Me Joy’ and ‘Sublime’ beatmaker arrives in Auckland on January 26 and gains support from Aucklanders Juni, house/garage duo Mom And Dad, and Alexandra Ngaia, who performs under A.I.A. BVNQUET took the time to speak with us exclusively ahead of this tour. When asked what it meant for him to travel and debut his music in Australia and New Zealand, BVNQUET remarked, “It’s a pretty surreal experience. A year or so ago, I would’ve considered this a pipe dream. I’ve heard nothing but great things about the crowds down under—needless to say, I’m very excited to come and play. Obviously, I’m also very happy to leave the rain in the UK and get some actual sun.”
Defining his impending set, the artist conveyed, “I’ve been working super hard to make the set as exciting as possible front to back. Expect lots of high energy bumpy garage, fast mixing, genre-switches, and big vibes – it’s gonna be absolute limbs.”
BVNQUET also pointed toward New Zealand-born, Australia-raised, and London-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jordan Rakei as one of the music producers from New Zealand who have influenced him. “Although a totally different genre to what I now make, I’ve always been a big fan of Jordan Rakei. I was making a similar genre to Jordan for a while before I made garage, and I still try to borrow chords and melodies from that world where I can.”
