From Azadi Records comes GVND and whoisavi’s new single, ‘Thaalam,’ a wicked flow twisted in hip-hop and classical percussive beats.
Dubai/Kochi-based bilingual rapper, lyricist, and producer GVND slaps hands once again with producer whoisavi to drop a classical percussion-driven hip-hop/rap jaunt, ‘Thaalam.’
Arising from dastardly 808 bass hooks, relays of Mridangam strikes, and thumping tabla action (Indian classical instruments) framed by whoisavi, the conscious rapper GVND throws down a heated performance in Malayalam.
True to the conscious rapper’s style, GVND tussles with self-doubt and spiritual disarray while spitting out intricate wordplay in an attempt to obtain redemption. With smudges of distorted vocals, GVND talks about “an unclear draught filled with indifference” in his voice and spotlights “traveling past many routes” with an unclear destination.
The chorus is catchy, the production is unnerving, and classical Indian instrumentation locks on raw and gritty textures. Its brief runtime of less than two minutes will leave you craving for more.
‘Thaalam’ by GVND and whoisavi is currently streaming on all major audio platforms
