Multi-genre electronic music and arts spectacle Groove & Bass throws down not one but two pre-party celebrations ahead of its July extravaganza. Ahead of its fifth anniversary festivities, Canada’s revered forest festival stamps its presence in Montreal, Quebec, on April 10, followed by Toronto, Ontario, on April 17. Groove & Bass unwraps proceedings at the multipurpose performance venue ESC in Montreal with a flush of techno rinsed by international heavyweights and local talents. LA-based techno force Shay De Castro and Amsterdam’s techno overlord JAYZO look set to ignite the dancefloor with booming, high-energy sessions.
Toronto-based techno artist Alley Kay slots on support duties for the evening, alongside Montreal-based scene shaper D’Urbano and Groove & Bass pillars Manüman and HeLLO, who channel sounds and tempos from the Montreal underground.
Held in collaboration with dance community FRONT RITE, gates open at 8:00 PM with a special presentation before the music hits an hour later and roars on until daybreak. A burlesque show and dance performances are also in store, all tied together with a raw warehouse atmosphere, immersive production, and community at its core.
Groove & Bass’s next high-voltage warm-up showcase rolls into Toronto on April 17, radiating from the basement of an old theater and jolted by a full sound system rig. Unannounced at the moment are a string of local selectors who join the card alongside a headlining international act, dishing out boundary-pushing house and hypnotic techno grooves.
Attendees will also get a taste of AlienInFlux Sound System in action, which will also take the reins during the five days of the festival in Bryson. At the time of writing, Alley Kay is confirmed to appear at this show.
