Canfest 2024 - 21st National Theatre Festival

“Canfest-2024” i.e.,21st National Theatre Festival (19th to 26^th March 2024) 8 days festival, is a conglomeration of 9 different theatre troupes & repertoire of a few selected Indian Directors from the country & state as well, to exhibit their forms & patterns.

This festival has been organised for the last twenty years (i.e., from 2004) & the production of notable thespians of the country has already been invited to this platform. Some of them to cite are Late K.N. Panikkar, Mr. M.K. Raina, Late Alakh Nandan, Late Mr.Bansi Kaul, Prof. Devendra Raj Ankur, Late Habib Tanvir, Mr. Rudra Prasad Sengupta, Mr. Bivas Chakraborty, Prof. (Mrs.) Tripurari Sharma, Mr. Nadira Babar, Sanjay Uppadhaya, Suryamohan Kulshreshta, Mr. Mushtaq Kak had already staged their show in days.

“Canfest” is always being held with a theme every year. For example in yesteryears, we have organized festivals with themes like “Women Directors’ Festival”, “Production of Young Directors”, “The places not touched and the people not called” etc.

This year in “Canfest-2024, there will be performance of (9) Nine plays in different Indian languages. This year emphasis will be given for presentation of plays based on Indian & western classics. This year Directors like Subhadip Raha, Chandan Sen, Ajay Malkani, Satyabrat Rout, Sriman N. Mishra have given their consent to stage their plays in this festival. Apart from that, discussions & seminars will be conducted within that period for interaction. In this occasion, we do invite many eminent Theatre Directors, Playwrights, and designers in the inauguration & valedictory ceremony as guests of the festival. We do also felicitate one senior theatre personality from National Level and State level for his lifetime contribution for theatre. The theatre troupes coming from Delhi, Bhopal, Kolkata, Ranchi, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur are participating in this festival. It is to mention here that this festival will be held parallelly at “Sanskriti Bhawan”, IIFCO Township (from 20^th to 22^nd march 2023) and “Utsav Auditorium”  Paradip Refinery Township (from 23^rd & 24^th March 2024)  apart from the main festival at Jayadev Sadan, Paradip Port from 19^th to 26^th March 2024.
