Boomtown Fair & Born On Road Team Up for an EP

Coming together for a noble cause, the British music festival and drum & bass record label have released an EP featuring heavyweight names.

The new year has begun, and so has the flurry of fresh and sensational drum & bass music. 2023 has already begun with Skrillex hopping on to drum & bass with his latest single, Halogenix announcing his new label with a riveting tune, and Delta Heavy’s forthcoming single, it is all kicking off in the very first weeks of the new year. Another release that has stood out since the turn of the year is this mammoth collaboration between one of the UK’s best music festivals, and now officially the best drum & bass record label of 2022.

Famously known as ‘UK’s Maddest City,’ Boomtown Fair went from a tiny festival in Gloucestershire in 2009 to a full-throttle 60,000-plus capacity event that goes on for five days with the hottest acts from the UK and beyond. After 10 smashing years, the festival came to a halt in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it ensured that its comeback was grand. The 2022 edition saw names like Koffee, Moonchild Sanelly, Nia Archives, Dan Shake and many, many more, along with some heavy bass music representation.

Born On Road, on the other hand, has been a label that has had its say in DnB’s explosion as a global powerhouse. Formed in 2013 by jungle music legend Aries, Kelvin 373, Stivs, Selecta J-Man & Gold Dubs, Born On Road have stood firm on their ethos of delivering the finest vocal-led drum & bass. After finishing 2021 in the second spot for the label of the year at the Drum&BassArena’s Awards, Born On Road ultimately grabbed the reward it deserved after winning the label of the year at the 2022 edition.

These two giants of UK’s bass music culture have now teamed up for an EP featuring the likes of Ed Solo, Mandidextrous, A Little Sound, Inja, Eva Lazarus, Gradna, and Selecta J-Man on the ‘Chapter One: The Gathering’ EP. Pushing Born On Road’s vocal-driven principles, the EP features three cracking drum & bass bangers followed by two remixes of the tunes from the EP. The best part of the EP is that all proceeds will go to ‘Tonic Music for Mental Health,’ an organization that focuses on the mental health of artists through various activities centered around music.

The ‘Chapter One: The Gathering’ EP begins with Ed Solo’s rumbling with Eva Lazarus on ‘Find Your Rhythm’ which opens with a gripping intro followed by a full-frontal attack of low-end drum & bass sonics over Lazarus’ intense vocals. A similar version of the tune comes next, this time with Gradna’s flowy bars.

The next tune is a rhythmic extension of the previous two with ‘Hold Your Rhythm,’ featuring Mandidextrous, A Little Sound, Inja, and Selecta J-Man coming together on this massive collaboration. Closing the EP is a jump-up drum & bass-directed version of ‘Find Your Rhythm,’ but this time, without the vocals, with the final tune being an atmospheric rendition of ‘Hold Your Rhythm.’ What a start to the year from Born On Road!
