Kelly’s On King has lined up an array of musical treats in the month of August! A mainstay of Irish-Australian culture in Sydney’s Newtown, the popular pub is nestled on the happening strip of King Street, hosting comedy shows, trivia game nights, and live music show night after night. This month, Kelly’s On King and its upstairs live band room Bootleggers will put on a frenzy showdown of indie, rock, and punk music with appearances from Ah Honey, Vertigo, Joel Hanley, Abbey Lane, and more!

August 4, 2023 – Ah Honey with Lucid Bloom and Sundryver
Sydney-based five-piece band Ah Honey will kick things off this August at Kelly’s On King! Holding their first-ever headlining gig, the indie-alt rock outfit will spew high-energy rock and roll infused with old-school melodies and infectious tunes. Comprised of Lilly on vocals, Noah and Chieco on guitar, Matt on bass, and Fin on drums, Ah Honey embarked on their musical exploits towards the end of 2022 and have since displayed their prowess on stage at a string of shows.

Joining them on support duties are Blue Mountains-based group lucidbloom and alt-rock band Sundryver. Except to catch the atmospheric layers of guitars and drums powered through with the hypnotic vocals from lucidbloom as well as the live rampage of indie alt-rock from four-piece band Sundryver.

August 5 – An Evening with Vertigo
Sydney’s rock quartet Vertigo returns to take the stage at Kelly’s On King on August 5, 2023, from 7:30 PM. Following their stints earlier this year with Doors and Mojave Rains as well as partaking in Kelly’s On King Battle of the Bands, Vertigo’s forthcoming show will also see Sundryver and Sonnet and the Breadboys.

August 11 – Cosmic Caravan with Polar Eyes, Bixie Major & Splendid Fiasco

Prepare to be engulfed by the heavy sounds of spectacular local talents headed by Eora/Sydney’s thrilling quintet, Cosmic Caravan. The heavy psych-rock band will waltz their way to Kelly’s for an exuberant night of live music and bustle for their returning gig at the Newtown-based venue. Supporting Cosmic Caravan on August 11 are five-piece rock band Bixie Major, known for their popular tracks ‘Suburban Tribe,’ ‘Make Yaself Loud,’ and ‘Fiddlestick;’ and indie rock bands Polar Eyes and Splendid Fiasco.

August 12 – Joel Hanley ‘All Right Now’ Single Launch & Birthday Bash Show
In anticipation of his birthday and the release of his new single ‘All Right Now,’ drummer and musician Joel Hanley will take over Kelly’s On King on August 12, 2023. The celebration will put on a heavy rock show, courtesy of Joel Hanley, featuring hard rock band Social Strangers and funk-rock outfit Chaperone.
Social Strangers continue to perform across Australia while building up to the release of their upcoming single, ‘Another Life,’ on August 18. Following their performance at Kelly’s On King, Chaperone will head to their showcase gig at Oxford Art Factory with Sonnet and The Bread Boys and Lemonise.

August 18 – Abbey Lane ‘Ghost’ NSW Tour with Jesse Curnow and Sarah Yagki
Indie-pop sensation Abbey Lane will culminate her ongoing tour across North-West Sydney on August 18 at Kelly’s On King. She returns to the venue following the release of her latest single ‘Ghost.’ Abbey ventured into music pretty early on and has built up a solid foundation in the scene in Sydney, having featured on line-ups with the likes of Diesel, Polish Club, and I Know Leopard, among others.
She will reunite with Sydney-based musician Jesse Curnow and alternative pop/rock artist Sarah Yagki, who is currently on a multi-state tour of Australia.

August 19 – Beggar Man Thief with The Swells and Tom Hogan
Putting their post-punk revival and 90s-inspired alternative sounds on display at Kelly’s On King on August 19 is Beggar Man Thief! The gig is in celebration of the quartet’s latest album, ‘Satisfaction Without the Buzz,’ released in June 2023. They will be joined by two-piece act The Swells and musician-producer Tom Hogan.

August 25 – 5 Bands for 5 Bucks
Wrapping up August’s roster of shows at Kelly’s On King and Bootleggers will be yet another iteration of 5 Bands for 5 Bucks. As the name suggests, grab your chance to catch five bands performing live for five bucks each. Flud, Southbound, The Smashed Avacados, Hokkaido, and Blank Display will take over the stage for 45 minutes each, starting at 8 PM.
