The Upstage puffs out oodles of dance music from electronic artists Badger, Catching Cairo, Kaz, Ree$ with AVOCADOMOUNTAIN, Valporate, Bennie, Junglecast, and the Invicta Audio Showcase crew.
Village Green Stage lights up with the Chalford Brass Band and Rock Your Asana sessions, while the Kids Entertainment area boasts circus performer Steve Kaos, contemporary circus academy School of Larks, stiltwalker/entertainer Thomas Trilby and Silly Science workshops, to name a few. Stand-up comedians Jon Pearson, Sean Gorman, Andrew White, and Kevin Daniel all occupy slots at the CrazyBird Comedy Tent.
Leon Daye, frontman of Cirencester-based indie-rock and blues collective The Leon Daye Band, spoke with us ahead of Chalfest. “We’re new to the festival, we’re really looking forward to performing at Chalfest,” said the artist. “People can expect some upbeat original music from us with catchy melodies and foot-tapping beats.”
Diving into their set, Leon communicated, “We’ve put a great set together of original music, with a possible odd cover thrown in, and we’ve been adding new material to our set since our debut album (‘Crash Land‘) release last year, so we’re keen for people to hear those new songs.”
On a pensive note, Dave expressed, “One important thing for me personally is the opportunity to perform on the recently named ‘Graham Brown’ stage.” He further elaborated, “I knew Graham and his wife Joyce for many years and am friends with their son Paul, – whose wedding I performed at. Graham sadly passed away earlier this year and was a big part of the village community. It’s a real privilege to perform on that stage and it’s great that the Chalfest organizers have chosen to honor him in this way.”
Bouncing off his latest release ‘Girls,’ musician Will Fray aka AVOCADOMOUNTAIN is all about nostalgia at Chalfest: “After my performance last year, the energy received and returned was out of sight. The crowd was packed and in being amongst friends and family and the Chalford community our music was heavily praised and their feedback put us in the right mindset for our performance in the coming month.” He added, “AVOCADOMOUNTAIN and Ree$ will bring a vibrant and energetic atmosphere to the Upstage tent with hip-hop, boom-bap, and alternative rap, married with a delivery of punchy and passionate vibes.”
Chalfest also seeks to be a sustainable showcase, observing a Leave No Trace policy, adding compostable beer mugs to their offering, and having a managing unit to assist with sorting of recyclable and non-recyclable trash.
