Bengaluru-based ensemble Lakkshya heave out the lead single of their debut album, reeling in acclaimed bass player Mohini Dey on this project.
Lakkshya is known to intricately twine traditional and contemporary musical formats, embedded in their strong foundation of Carnatic music. Composer/violinist KJ Diliip, singer/composer Ila Sangeetha Diliip, percussionist Sunaad Anoor, and pianist Aman Mahajan complete this foursome.
‘The Way Home’ sees bassist Mohini Dey join in, stapling yet another glitzy collaborative appearance onto her resume. Via social media, Dey revealed she performed on two of the band’s compositions and recorded one of them on a six-string bass by a lake in Nashville.
Clocking in at around eleven minutes, ‘The Way Home’ offers a sleek instrumental melody, initially trotting through polished string arrangements and pulsing bass tugs. The melody marches on with folkish percussive routines and speedy violin segments and also delivers flamboyant back-and-forth action between the bass and violin layered on a carpet of somber key arrangments.
About this release, the group stated that “‘The Way Home’ can be seen as a musical metaphor for the journey of life – filled with moments of peace, joy, and discovery, ultimately leading us back to a place of belonging” via press release.
‘The Way Home’ was released on October 4, 2024, and is currently streaming on all audio platforms. Lakkshya Quartet is currently in the middle of their European tour ahead of the release of their debut album titled ‘Ecstasy.’
