Deccan Alternative Music Conference To Visit Kochi in 2025

The music mavericks at Neon Culture ship their traveling music conference Deccan Alternative Music Conference (DAMC) to the coastal nook of Kochi for its second edition in 2025.

Bengaluru-based music consultancy Neon Culture, led by Prarthana Sen and Vishruti Bindal, dart to port city Kochi in Kerala to host their flagship undertaking Deccan Alternative Music Conference or DeccanAlt next year. The two-day event is slated for February 7 and 8, and will stem from the multi-purpose cultural space, Kerala Museum in Edappally.

Dressed with “Looking Inward // Looking Outward” as its theme, this upcoming exhibition will discuss and present actions to create a more resilient music economy – threading action-based and skills-oriented programming.

For attendees, the itinerary boasts numerous hands-on workshops, insightful masterclasses, wisdom-packed presentations, meaningful case studies, fireside chats, and abundant networking opportunities. Following the day-long interactions, DeccanAlt will spring live music sessions from selected artists based in the Deccan region.

In a press statement, Vishruti Bindal, co-founder and artistic co-director of DeccanAlt, expressed, “The most exciting part about the showcase is the talent buyer program. We curate workshops, pitching sessions, and 1-1 meetings for all shortlisted artists at the showcase. The talent buyers are regional, national, and global music industry players who will mentor these artists on their export readiness. We hope to become one of the leading discovery platforms for emerging artists in the Deccan region, in the coming years!”

Meanwhile, Prarthana Sen, co-founder and artistic co-director of DeccanAlt, says, “We put a lot of care and intention into our curation, and try to program as many local experts, mid-career professionals and people who have real-life, current, practical knowledge to share with our conference delegates with a reasonable gender balance and representation as well. We are not perfect but take small steps to improve our curation every year.”

As revealed via their thorough DAMC / DeccanAlt Showcase 2024 report, a chunk of attendees (57%) comprised of fans and music enthusiasts, whereas nearly 20% were artists and students. DAMC 2024 also saw 54% non-male speakers, with sessions conducted by prominent industry figures such as Rumpa Banerjee of the Indian Performing Rights Society, Roshnee Kumar of Redbull India, and renowned composers MD Pallavi and Bindhumalini.
