‘Open’ will feature some stunning collaborations from the duo alongside Faye Meana, Hailé Supreme, Ric Wilson, Joep Beving and more.
It was in 2011 that Dutch pair Lars Dales and Maarten Smeets quickly broke through in the electronic music scene. Since then, they have become known for their widescreen approach to making and playing club-ready grooves. From deep house to garage, breaks to classic house.
Their early high-energy tracks, like ‘The Wrap Around’ and ‘The Break Up,’ sent dancers worldwide into a frenzy. Landmark releases such as ‘Minor Fools,’ ‘Allright (Just A Tribute),’ and their 2018 album ‘High Life’ further solidified their timeless and classy approach to house music.
Since 2013, the pair have also established their record label, Heist Recordings, as one of the key independent labels for underground dance music while also releasing music on other mainstays in electronic music such as Aus Music and Classic Music Company. Heist is more than just a label; it is a breeding ground for talents old and new, and a family more than anything else.
Artists such as Cinthie, DJ Sneak, Crackazat, Tesfa Williams, Makèz, Pépé Bradock, Matthew Herbert, Ge-Ology and Byron the Aquarius have all contributed to the label, proving that Heist is a place where unrestrained creatives have the freedom to express their own sonic visions.
Heist Recordings is now responsible for bringing the eclectic duo’s third long player to life after seven years. The new album sees the acclaimed duo dive far beyond the deep sonic waters they’re most known for, exploring lower tempos, synthwave, hip-house, and ambient across fourteen tracks. With a gestation period that traces back several years, ‘Open’ is their most intimate and personal body of work thus far, birthed during a time of self-reflection away from touring and personal transformation as individuals.
Ahead of their album release on May 30, 2025, the Amsterdam duo has unveiled the first single, ‘Girl,’ featuring Faye Meana. Combining their signature playful melodies and lush percussion with Faye’s soulful vocals, the track delivers a vibrant, summery vibe. Along with Faye Meana, the album also features interesting guests like Hailé Supreme, Ric Wilson, and Joep Beving, among others.
The Dam Swindle alias has achieved house music royalty-like status across a storied 15-year career that includes two critically lauded full-lengths, collaborations with the likes of Tom Misch and Kerri Chandler, and a globetrotting touring schedule. This album stands as their most profoundly personal work of art to date, and we can’t wait to catch the record in all its glory.
