Stunt Doubles is a collaborative project from New York electronic duo Baalti and British-Indian DJ-producer Anish Kumar.
Booming with a sound described as “a fever dream of vintage Indian pop culture, surreal cinema, and rare groove exploration,” the trio expands the discography with two new tracks.
Out now via UK-based label Method 808, ‘Stunt Doubles (Pt. 2)’ dives even deeper into the trifecta’s kaleidoscopic blend of South Asian rhythms, vintage film soundtracks, and dusty crate-digger aesthetics.
Opening number ‘The Fastest Boxer in the East’ is a retro throwback, built on vintage vocal samples, a bouncy dance groove, flashy basslines, and a sprinkle of brass. ‘Speak Softly’ follows suit, layering bright synths, deep bass movement, and vibrant electronic textures.
Via social media, Baalti shared they were “so happy to finally release” the new tracks. “This whole campaign has honestly been so fun, envisioning this fictional band of desi uncles and then actually bringing the whole thing to life.”
The supergroup first interacted while performing at the Arrivals stage in Glastonbury in 2024, and draws inspiration from their shared South Asian heritage. Stunt Doubles’ musical flavor is inspired by a mix of influences from Indian wedding brass bands and The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper style psychedelia to disco-era flair and surrealist humor.
Their debut release, ‘Stunt Doubles (Pt. 1),’ arrived on June 20 and features the breakbeat and flute-soaked ‘Title Theme,’ alongside the pulsing Bollywood disco hip-shaker ‘Chalo Chalo.’
