PinkPantheress Receives First-Ever Mercury Prize Nomination

The recipients of the Mercury Prize 2025, one of the most esteemed awards presented to artists from the UK and Ireland, have been revealed.

Pencilled in for October 16, 2025, the award ceremony will be shifting to Newcastle’s Utilita Arena this year, making the event’s debut outside of London. PinkPantheress will be one of the artists competing to pick up the sought-after prize this year. The 24-year-old’s Mercury Prize 2025 nod comes for her 2025 mixtape ‘Fancy That,’ which included the viral track, ‘Illegal.’ The opening line “My name is Pink and I’m really glad to meet you” has been used as a sound in over 428,000 Instagram reels and 39 million TikToks.

Other first-time Mercury Award nominees besides PinkPantheress are Leeds-born musician Emma-Jean Thackray for her sophomore record ‘Weirdo,’ Jacob Alon’s debut album ‘In Limerence,’ ‘Hamstrings and Hurricanes’ by Joe Webb, and Martin Carthy, an 84-year-old singer and guitarist who is the oldest-ever nominee, receiving a nod for his eleven-track album ‘Transform Me Then Into A Fish.’

Wolf Alice and Pulp have been recognised for their albums ‘The Clearing’ and ‘More’ this year. This makes them the most-nominated artists this year with four Mercury Prize nominations behind past nominees Arctic Monkeys and Radiohead, who have received five nods apiece, which is the record for the most Mercury Prize nominations at the moment.

‘Eusexua’ and ‘Euro-Country’ from two-time Mercury Prize nominees FKA Twigs and CMAT, respectively, are also up for the award alongside Fontaines DC for ‘Romance,’ Pa Salieu’s ‘Afrikan Alien’ and ‘People Watching’ from Sam Fender.

The judges for the Mercury Prize 2025 include Jamz Supernova, Sian Eleri, Danielle Perry, Phil Alexander, Sophie Williams, and others. English Teacher picked up the Mercury Prize in 2024 for their debut album ‘This Could Be Texas,’ ‘Where I’m Meant To Be’ by Ezra Collective in 2023, Little Simz took home the prize in 2022 for her record ‘Sometimes I Might Be Introvert‘, and ‘Collapsed in Sunbeams’ by Arlo Parks in 2021.
