The film allows viewers to relive Depeche Mode’s three sold-out shows in Mexico City from 2023.

Depeche Mode’s “M” first hit the silver screen in October last year at more than 2,500 cinemas. Before being showcased across sixty countries, the film premiered at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. Now, fans can watch it from the comfort of their homes as “M” arrived on Netflix on January 9 for viewers in the US, Europe, and the UK.

The 1-hour 35-minute film, directed by Fernando Frias, follows the three sold-out shows at the Foro Sol Stadium in Mexico City. The English electronic music band played before over 200,000 fans at these concerts, which were in support of their iconic 2023 album, ‘Memento Mori.’ This was their first record since the passing of the founding member Andy Fletcher.

This concert film and documentary includes archival footage and goes beyond the music and performance. It also looks into how the culture in Mexico views death. “This documentary explores Mexico’s relationship with music, mortality and tradition, framed by synth-pop band Depeche Mode’s sold-out run in Mexico City,” reads the description of “Depeche Mode: M” on Netflix.

“It was decided that the show for release would be shot in Mexico,” director Fernando Frías told NME. He continued speaking about the direction of the film based on the members’ discussion on “coming back after the pandemic and the loss of Andrew Fletcher, so they wanted to be more focused on the show and the message of the album.”

“You’ll have people dancing to ‘Enjoy The Silence’ at family parties, and others scouring for it on underground bootleg tapes. There are so many generations who love them and think they’re essential. That’s why the band chose to shoot in Mexico. I’ve been to see them in other countries because I wanted to get familiar with them before shooting. It’s very different,” said Fernando.
