For the fourth year in a row, Glasgow-based collective Mungo’s Hi Fi darts down to Kiwi shores, hauling their sublime brand of reggae, dub, and dancehall music. Accompanied by multi-genre performer and regular collaborator Eva Lazarus on this tour, the band looks set to once again unleash their Jamaican-rooted soundsystem culture at standalone concerts as well as festivals across Australia and New Zealand this month. Tickets to Mungo’s Hi Fi’s show in Queenstown on March 20 are available now on Ticket Fairy.
Their tour kicks off in Melbourne on March 7, followed by stops in Adelaide, Byron Bay, Christchurch, Raglan, Queenstown, Auckland, Sunshine Coast, and Perth. Consisting of Dougie No Pain, Craigy Wonder, Breezak Bass, and Tommy Danger, Mungo’s Hi Fi return to The London after stamping their presence at this live music hotspot in May of last year with an extended three-hour session. The forthcoming show on March 20 is presented by Wakama and Tahuna Dub.
Vocalist Eva Lazarus joins the setup, flooding the arena with her charisma and dance-inducing grooves heard on their joint efforts, namely ‘Gasoline,’ ‘Amsterdam,’ ‘Light As A Feather,’ ‘Live My Life,’ and ‘Bad Gyal,’ sitting on their 10-track collaborative album ‘More Fyah‘ (2019).
A debut is also in store as Lyttelton-based Roots Fire Sound arrives in the region for the first time on this night and is locked in to play an all-vinyl opening set. Their presence also makes it the first time a massive 8-scoop soundsystem owns the floor in Queenstown.
Supporting acts for this billing are yet to be announced at the time of writing. Gates open at 10:30 PM.
