Nas – Magic [Album]

Nas drops his 2nd album of 2021, ‘Magic’, teaming up with his main man Hit-Boy for all of the songs except for ‘Wave Gods’ featuring A$AP Rocky and DJ Premier. The lyrical content of the album finds Nas appreciating the finer things in life and flexing a little about the payouts he’s been receiving now and again, investing in businesses, etc. He still also feels welcome in the street because of his legacy and that part of him is never going anywhere. He wants to build and build for the people of the hood and in his words empowers and inspires people to take up and achieve their goals like he has.

Placebo – Beautiful James [Single]

The first single to be unveiled from their 8th upcoming studio album, Placebo teased and released ‘Beautiful James’ after about 5 years of no new music. They happened to post about the upcoming February ‘22 album ‘Never Let Me Go’ somewhere in May ’21, saying that the album is finished and ready to go, but have been really tight-lipped until they teased fans with the single, releasing a visualizer with the audio in September and an accompanying music video to go with it just less than a week ago. The band’s frontman Brian Molko says it’s “as powerful as it is tender – a resolutely defiant and ultimately necessary piece of art.”

Mary J. Blige – Amazing (ft. DJ Khaled) [Single]

At age 50, the R&B diva that is Mary J. Blige is on the way to releasing another album and along with the single ‘Good Morning Gorgeous’ (featured in TF Picks: Fresh Music Releases You Can’t Miss (#22)), she also released another song with it called amazing featuring DJ Khaled. It’s a completely new vibe for her with the kind of beat and modern touch the song has, but what’s most important is that she shines through both the songs, inspiring women all over the world to reassure themselves in their own strength and ability to move on and be what they truly are – AMAZING!

Alicia Keys – Come For Me (Unlocked) ft. Khalid, Lucky Daye [Music Video]

Soulful and beautiful, the Grammy-winning sensation Alicia Keys dropped a self-directed video for her song ‘Come For Me (Unlocked)’ featuring Khalid and Lucky Daye. The song comes out of her latest album ‘Keys’, her 8th studio album and her first-ever double album, which released on December 10th, ’21. Side A has the original songs in typical Alicia Keys style, whereas Side B has the same songs produced and remixed differently.

Pusha T & Kendrick Lamar – Cocaine Out The Window (ft. Silk Sonic) [Mashup]

A mashup between ‘Smoking Out The Window’ by Silk Sonic and ‘Nosetalgia’ by Pusha T ft. Kendrick Lamar. Playing with the groove from the Silk Sonic song, mashup experts Toasty Digital released an interesting mix ‘Cocaine Out The Window’ which incorporates the smoothness of Silk Sonic and the street vibe of Pusha T and Kendrick Lamar going at it from ‘Nosetalgia’. Check out the YouTube channel for more interesting mashups.

OUTRAGE – CAPTIVE [SINGLE]

Outrage is Andrew Ferguson aka Nomine’s Drum & Bass and Jungle alias. Nomine was also the man behind ‘Blind Man’ which is one of the finest Dubstep tunes made in recent times. Outrage is the producer’s way of exploring his love for the sultry sounds of DnB and Jungle; and his latest Drum & Bass outing comes with RAM Records for a thrilling number that brings the old school and contemporary Jungle sounds together.

MODESTEP – SOLASTALGIA [ALBUM]

Merging Rock with Dubstep, British duo Modestep have innovated the sub frequencies in their own way. For their latest release on Disciple Recordings’ ‘Disciple Alliance’ Vol. 7 compilation, they have done a one up and fused UKG elements with Dubstep on Solastalgia which begins a melodic intro before crashing into a murky Dubstep banger.

HARRISON BDP – SEEING SPIDERS [SINGLE]

Infusing Deep House, Tech-House, Dub Techno, and Progressive House into his music, Harrison BDP is one of the most exciting producers in the electronic music circuit. His latest exploits come with Birmingham-based producer Ed Hodge for a 4 track EP called ‘Virtual Resistance’ EP and our pick from the EP is ‘Seeing Spiders’ which a surging and progressive number that is meant for the mind, body and soul.

UNEAK – SOUND BOY HEAR THIS [SINGLE]

Kemet Records is a Jungle label based out of Tottenham in London. The label existence dates back to the time when Jungle as a genre was in its prototype stage. The label was also responsible for some of the Jungle classics during the mid-90s but they sadly had to wind up their operations. Kemet then came all guns blazing by relaunching the label in 2016 and since then they have gone back to being the Jungle powerhouse that they were. The label’s latest release comes with Uneak for a gorgeous 4-track EP and our pick from the release is the rudeboy-tinged tune ‘Sound Boy Hear This’.

 Captain Mustache – Paola [ALBUM]

Having featured on labels like KOMPAKT Records, Exploited, Permanent Vacation, Bordello A Parigi,  and Correspondant, romantic & burlesque is how they like to describe Parisian producer Captain Mustache’s music. He has now landed a release on John Digweed’s label Bedrock Records for a dreamy and driving electro-infused scorcher called ‘Paola’.

We’ll be back next week with more interesting recommendations for you to listen to and/or groove to!

See you in 2022!
