Camo & Krooked And Mefjus Reveal New Label: Modus

Since 2015, the wave of drum & bass artists starting their own imprints has picked up relentless pace and there have been many success stories with Alix Perez’s 1985 Music, DRS’ Space Cadet, Lenzman’s The North Quarter, to name a few.

This year alone, we have seen Kimyan Law’s Plus Plus Plus Music, Kyrist’s Kynetic Sound, French DnB pioneers Bobby & Elisa Do Brasil’s Vahana Records, Charlie Tee’s Total Records, New Zealand’s One Eighty Records from the SUB180 crew, Inja’s Inja Music, and Metalheadz’s Techno label Headzstate come to life with the idea of championing the sound they believe in.

Now for the 8th label announcement of the year, we have Austrian drum & bass legends Camo & Krooked and Mefjus announcing their brand new label, Modus. With a combined expertise of over two decades in the scene, Camo & Krooked and Mefjus have always made music with the thought of defying the conventional laws of drum & bass music and Modus will be a continuation of their genre-defining journey.

Camo & Krooked are credited with bringing the anti-drop style in drum & bass which is now widely seen in many releases, while Mefjus has been the advocate of hyperclean, razor-sharp and intense DnB. With releases across the board on the biggest and the most celebrated labels in the drum & bass world, the Austrians have redefined the contemporary tropes of the genre in their own way.

In the last couple of years, Camo & Krooked and Mefjus have worked heavily together on tunes like Kallisto, Sidewinder, and No Tomorrow followed by one of the biggest drum & bass tunes of 2021, ‘Sientelo‘; but nobody had envisioned a proper label coming then.

Speaking about the label, Camo & Krooked and Mefjus saidStarting our own independent music label has always been a dream of ours, which now comes true. Together with our good friend Mefjus we are launching MODUS and will do things our way! A way of doing things / a motive / a manner / a value.”

The label’s debut release lands on April 22. Here is a sneak peek into what’s to come from the legends at Modus:
