International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists 

Over a thousand journalists have lost their lives while on the job, reporting news and providing information to the masses. Journalists too should be able to work in a safe environment. Violence, threats, and attacks against journalists, both physically and online, should be condemned. On November 2, 2013, two French journalists were assassinated. Therefore, November 2, 2022, is marked as International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists. This day raises awareness about the crimes against journalists and urges one to do the most one can to bring those who attack and torture journalists to justice.

World Tsunami Awareness Day 

Landslides, volcanic eruptions, asteroid or extraterrestrial collisions and earthquakes are some of the reasons that can cause a tsunami. The World Tsunami Awareness Day on November 5 aims to spread awareness about tsunamis as tsunamis have claimed thousands of lives. It also helps share ideas about reducing the risks of tsunamis. Tsunamis can cause infrastructural damage, harm people, and lead to loss of life. Over the years, many people have been visiting tsunami-prone regions due to the rise in tourism. This means more people could be harmed when there is a tsunami.

Wars and armed conflict leave many people dead, fatally injured, or wounded. It also leads to pollution and the cutting down of trees. Animals are also killed during armed conflicts. All this affects our environment. Therefore, November 6 has been designated International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict.

World Antibiotic Awareness Week

Antimicrobial resistance occurs when microbes such as fungi, viruses, parasites, and bacteria don’t respond to medicines anymore. This makes infections difficult to treat and can also result in death. Antimicrobial resistance increases the risk of the spread of disease. World Antimicrobial Awareness Week, also known as World Antibiotic Awareness Week, is observed from November 13, 2022, to November 19, 2022. This week helps spread awareness about antimicrobial resistance. The 2022 theme for this week is “Preventing Antimicrobial Resistance Together.”

World Diabetes Day

World Diabetes Day is observed on November 14. The theme for this year’s event is Access to Diabetes Care. This day aims to spread awareness about diabetes and what can be done to prevent it. It also offers us an opportunity to increase awareness about what is required for managing the condition and for better diagnosis.
