Bask in the sounds of the good old blues and the aromas of slow-cooked, fiery barbecue at the 12th annual Blues and Bones Festival at Calaveras County Fairgrounds, Angels Camp in California on September 23. The forthcoming twelfth edition of the Blues and Bones Festival promises to fulfill visitors’ appetites for both blues and barbecue, with a stellar line-up of musicians and juicy meats on offer. Kicking off at noon, Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia, collectively known as the Blood Brothers Band, are roped in to be the headliner. Other bands lighting up the stage include the soulful blues crew Evan Thomas Band, blues man Jeramy Norris & The Blues Cartel, and five-piece high-energy blues band Laurie Morvan Band. Evan Thomas Band opens up the blues showcase, and the event culminates with a massive all-artist jam session.

Headliners Mike Zito and Albert Castiglia unleashed ‘Blood Brothers,’ an eleven-track blues-rock album in 2023, which debuted on the Billboard Top US Blues Albums chart at number one. Talking about the album, Mike Zito mentioned, “This album was a blast to make and I am even more excited to take this music out on the road and perform for the people,” while Albert Castiglia expressed, “The making of this album was a ‘brotherhood’ in every sense of the word.” Their appearance at Bones and Blues is part of their ongoing Blood Brothers Tour, which includes stops in Las Vegas, Davenport, and Livermore in September.
The day-long festival will stem from the Calaveras Country Fair Grounds, a 71-acre property that hosts festivals, events, concerts, corporate meetings, weddings, and other functions. Festivalgoers are encouraged to carry sun protection supplies, low-back chairs, and blankets.
Blues guitarist Laurie Morvan of Laurie Morvan Band echoed her enthusiasm about performing at Bones and Blues with us, sharing, “We are really looking forward to performing at Blues and Bones this year and are excited about sharing the stage with all the great talent that will be there. Our fans love this fest and have been asking us for several years to play it… so glad we are making it happen in 2023!”
