After a glistening showcase in 2022, The Longline Classic makes its grand return emanating from Gisborne Soundshell in Gisborne, coasting a wave of New Zealand’s finest musical acts. Developed by Nexgen Touring and The Longline Classic, the latest iteration arrives on Labor Day weekend, October 21, with tickets available from The Ticket Fairy.
Stemming from the new beachside locale, The Longline Classic is set to whip up a multi-genre musical buffet sprawled across two massive stages. Headliners confirmed for the show include roots reggae outfit Katchafire, singer-songwriter Mitch James, multi-instrumentalist producer Lord Echo, and hip-hop collective Home Brew. Six-piece psychedelic rock crew Oceanspace, jazz-funk outfit Flamingo Pier, EDM artist Halfqueen, DJ and producer Witters, and MC Crafty feature on the line-up once again.
Artists Molly Payton, Bontempo, duo HarrisonJupe (Ethan and Harry), Buttermilk (Gabby and Zoe), HYAN, The Butlers, and garage surf rock band Off Judy round out the artist card. Set timings and stage allocations are yet to be announced.
Speaking about their performance, garage rock trio Off Judy tells us, “Despite part of the band being from New Zealand and actually from Gisborne itself, this will be our first time coming over to play on NZ soil so we’re super excited to come play to fresh and familiar faces, catch up with everyone and have a goody. We’re coming over for a tour and we couldn’t think of a better way to kick things off than labor weekend in Gizzy.”
Alternative indie band The Butlers are penciled in to reunite at Longline Classic after a brief hiatus. They spoke with us, saying, “We’re really looking forward to this one. We’ve known Kurt and James (festival organizers) for a long time now, so to link up and be asked to perform at the Longline Classic is really special for us. It’s our first gig since February after two of our members went overseas for a good stint, so this one has been circled on the calendar with great anticipation! The lineup is unreal, we’re especially looking forward to seeing Homebrew light it up.”
We also heard from Oceanspace, who will mark a milestone at the gig with this performance, sounding: “We are looking forward to celebrating three years since our first show as Oceanspace during Longline weekend back in 2021, and honored to be sharing our music alongside some of Aotearoa’s finest live and electronic artists! It’s going to be a cool mix of people and music, and what better place for it than Gizzy.”
Gisborne Soundshell, located on Centennial Marine Drive at Midway Beach, is famed for hosting events and shows, bragging a capacity of upwards of 10,000 attendees. Attendees can book bus travel to the venue, which will be run from pick-up points at Okitu Store (Wainui), Gisborne Council/Te Kura Awhio Carpark, and Mangapapa Four Square. Buses leaving for the festival will operate from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM, and they will return to their starting points between 8:30 PM and 11:30 PM.
The Longline Classic commences from 2 PM onwards, with the third release and VIP passes still up for grabs. Side stage viewing, complimentary champagne upon arrival, and a private bar with a customized drink menu are all covered by VIP passes.
